Hi,
I took the ACT for the first time in February and got a composite score of 33 (trust me, I was shocked). I hate when people on here act like having a 3.9 GPA or a 2300 SAT is a complete failure, and I know my score is incredible and that I have nothing to worry about etc. I'm not looking for sympathy or disgust or anything like that. I just need advice on how I can cram for tomorrow and hopefully increase my score.

My subscores:
Reading: 36 (no idea how that happened)
English: 35 (also have no idea how that happened)
Math: 32 (I want to improve this)
Science: 28 (I ran out of time and had to guess on the last few passages, any tips?)
Writing: 8 (I was honestly expecting this to be much better, then again I didn't have a format or anything.)

Anyway, I would really appreciate some suggestions on how I can cram tonight! If anyone has any essay templates or strategies that have worked well in the past, I would really appreciate it.

I also need tips for science...

And anything else you guys think can help me!

Thanks in advance.

(I have no idea what I'm doing, this is my first post :P Also, ignore the username? I actually don't think I'm a princess or Ivy League material for that matter)

I think it would be very hard to pull off a 36 in one day but you did get a 33 in your first sitting and that is pretty bad ass. congratz on your score but I have no tips haha

I got a 32 on my first and only sitting (31 R, 36 M, 30 W, 30 S)…you basically have to be really fast on the science section, and skip any irrelevant information.

Thanks, guys! Do you read the science passages, or skim over them? I think I need a new strategy. (Last time, I read all the passages and still had to refer to them when answering the questions, which cost me time.)

It’s probably best to skip them entirely and go straight to the questions. Then go back and refer to the passage/charts/graphs as needed. I never prepared for the ACT, but it seemed to me that nearly half of the questions could be solved by simply referring to a chart.

I got a 36 (on science) and I didn’t even skim the passages (except for the scientist A vs B section) until after reading the questions. Honestly, a lot of science is also luck (what kind of questions you get and what science subjects you are best at), but I would recommend it. At first it might seem a bit tough, but its definitely not necessary to read through the articles. I think on the real thing, I finished with 5-10 minutes to spare as well.

I managed to finish this time but it was harder than the practice ones I had taken, and everyone else at my school said it was the hardest science they had ever seen.

Ivy, I took the ACT today as well and for the same reasons. Trying to add a few points to my first-sitting score of 32. Did you find today’s test to be different than practices/others generally? It thought the questions were a bit vague, some even poorly written
