Hey, I'm a Senior applying to USC and UCLA. The only things that is giving me a bad chance at getting into these schools is my ACT score, I got a 23 composite score, this is really low for those school and I need to get at least a 29. If not, even a 28 would give me a better chance. I have a few weeks until the next ACT, what could I be doing to prep good enough? And would USC and UCLA allow me to send my test scores in later and still qualify for scholarships as long as I send the rest of my application on time?

My son got a 25 on his ACT in September. He hasnt retaken it yet, but will in December. He is studying appx an hour a night 4 nights a week and taking 1 full practice test each Saturday. The first practice test he scored a 26, the 2nd a 29. He will take the 3rd tomorrow and we are hoping to see another jump in his score. I know these are not the actual test, but they are from The Real ACT book and are past tests.

From everything I have read on this board this is the way to raise your score. Buy The Real ACT book and maybe one or 2 others … we bought PR Cracking the ACT as well, and just study and practice practice practice.

I do not know what to expect come December when he retakes it again for real, but I know that this is helping him towards his goal. It cant hurt right? Good luck to you!

oh and he is also reviewing each answer he misses on the practice tests to learn from his mistakes. Last night he scored a 36 on the science section of practice test #5!! We were thrilled!! We are having him use practice test #5 as a study guide since he will not have enough Saturdays to get to that test in full. (his school is having a full practice test available for all students wanting a sit through the Saturday after Thanksgiving)

Have you done all of the practice tests that you have and try to understand why you make those mistakes (careless, lack of knowledge, etc) ?

Ninja-
I agree with using only REAL ACT questions. The real ACT Book (red) will give you five.

Retired ACT Tests are also available.

I got a 22 in october and am trying again in December.

I do one section of the test ever night I can. I have been getting about 5 days/week in.

Thanks for all the answers, I’ll definitely have to start taking those practice tests from the book.
