raising english score

My lowest score was english by far. i would have gotten my goal of 30 if i did not screw up english so badly. i am in ap english and all but i think i am very week on grammar rules. i strongly believe if someone studied the grammar rules it would be much easier to take section 1 of the ACT.

So what I am asking is what books has everyone used to learn some common grammar rules that are tested on the ACT? and did it help?

It's pretty simple to raise your English score. My usage subscore went from a 13/18 to a 17/18. My reccomendation would be Princeton Review.
Good luck!
I need to raise my math score. I am about to be in AP Calc and I can't break a 27 on the practice test!

talk about bad...my other sub scores were 36 36 35 and my english was a damn 26...I also would like suggestions as to how to raise that

^^ me too. I don't undetstand how to use commas. :(

Get as many practice tests as you can. Take one, and have a good English tutor go through it with you and help you understand your mistakes. Repeat.

And read a lot of good--or at least decent--literature.

Well at least you are having the problem in the easiest section to improve on. Just practice and remember the rules of grammar and make it sound right or flow.

English is my best subject so I can't say what the best preps are, but I would agree this it is among the easier scores to raise. The ACT seems to test very many of the same general concepts of English during each test. If you dedicate some time to studying those, it should improve your score a lot.

read!!! i went into the ACT with absoloutely no prep/ only read up on the format of the test the day before and got a 35 on the english-- and i think it's just because i normally read so much. all the rules/how everything is supposed to sound just gets engrained into your head.

what book would you use for basic grammar rules?

you should already know them i mean cumon you arent gonna say We was going there.....common sense....i mean its not like youre from a foreign country and cant speak english

I don't mean to be rude gameguy88, but it seems to me that you need a little bit of help in the grammar department yourself.

hahah me?? dude did u even speak english in china?

not China Vietnam nguyen

Just because my last name is Nguyen does not imply that I lived in Vietnam; I was born and raised in the U.S.A. thank you very much. Please use a little sense when on this board.

lol sense? Dude thank you very much but im not a stalker who knows that you were born and raised in the USA.

Well you seemed certain that I was born in raised in Vietnam. Oh and do me a favor, and stop calling me dude. Now I am going to have the decency to end this conversation little feud, and I advice you to do the same.

delete the word conversation
Anyway back to the original topic.

Amsco's was a good series. It's relatively cheap, and the science and math books work pretty well. I have never used the books for English and reading.

oh and btw its ''advise'' not advice

u definitely need some english tutoring man

Well seeing as how I scored a 30+ in English, I guess I don't.

30+ wow dude you wanna cookie or something? I scored a 33 on English so u can keep ur mouth shut
