Raising money for a community as a hook?

If a student raises a large sum of money to be used to help his/her community, can that be considered a hook? Large sum as in $1,000? What if it was $5,000? $10,000?

bump bump bump

That's no hook.

Maybe $100,000 plus.

$10,000? Someone could just use their own money and pretend like he or she fundraised.

It would really depend why you were doing it. The cause and why you're working for that cause is what the hook would be. Anyone can raise a thousand dollars, it's why you raised the thousand dollars that colleges would care about.

What if you're incorporating that fundraiser along with your passion? My Ecs really involve children so if my fundraiser would help raise money for Children in Africa and low income children locally, would that be a better hook?
