raising science gpa

I am a psychology major, so none of my major classes count toward my science gpa. I want to raise it, and am thinking of taking some upper division bio classes to do so. However, I realized that there are also a lot of bio classes that are lower than the ones I took as my pre med bio courses. Would it look bad/questionable if I took these classes to raise my gpa?

Are you talking about things like “BIO 1xx Environmental Biology” or “BIO 1xx Biology of Ecosystems” and similar such classes or are we talking about courses like “BIO 2xx Human Anatomy and Physiology” (or whatever)? The former would look suspect, yes, but the latter would likely be helpful. You should consider taking such classes as biochem (in the Bio dept if possible), cell bio, genetics, human physiology, and maybe micro. If you do well in those, it will show med schools you can do upper-division bio and together, those courses will be worth somewhere around 20 units (possibly more w/ labs and so forth).

Don’t take any courses that wouldn’t count towards a biology major if you were one.

thanks a lot for the input. i think i’m going to end up taking a genetics class.
