i was accepted to both ramapo and rutgers (among others, but i think its down to these)
i was wondering if anyone who goes to either of these or know people who do can give any comments or insight that would help me make a decision. thanks!

Rutgers-New Brunswick or Newark/Camden?

new brunswick
also, my major is bio if that matters at all

Well I would recommend Rutgers-NB then since the school really is the flagship of New Jersey. You will be able to have a real college experience. There’s plenty of organizations, sports, and activities to take part of. Rutgers also does a good amount of research which is a plus for you since your majoring in Bio. You can apply for research assistant positions which will be a plus to your resume and future.

Rutgers for sure.

there both really different schools. ramapo is much smaller, about a quarter the size of rutgers, population wise. its more of a liberal arts school. rutgers on the other hand is a large state school, very party heavy. i guess it really depends on your preference.

Rutgers, it has an excellent reputation. Plus, New Brunswick is really nice.

Consider (1) whether Rutgers is too big for you and (2) whether Ramapo has enough going on over the weekend

yeah thats pretty much where i am now-trying to decide between too big too much going on
and too small too little going on and whether the perks of ramapo are worth the sacrifice of the connections and academics of rutgers

I know both schools pretty well. Which perks of Ramapo most interest you?

well i think the dorms are extremely nice, thats pretty much the biggest
the campus is beautiful! there are lots of trees and it’s very vibrant
there is also free laundry which i like
all of the classes being in one building seems to be quite convenient
and the small class size may come in handy

You should visit and speak to people who attended those schools. Rutgers is better known, but I know people who hate Rutgers and some who love Ramapo. They’re so different, it’s hard to compare.

What do you plan to major in and what plans to you have regarding grad. school?

im going to major in biology and probably (but not definitely) go to grad school (probably get my masters in genetics)

I am a Sophomore at Ramapo College and I am studying English/ Linguistics with a Psychology Minor. Ramapo has one of the most beautiful campuses and a reservation you can get to by foot. The academics are very competitive and I believe I am getting all of my money’s worth for my education. Ramapo does have a science program and even a nursing program which is very impressive. The dorms for Ramapo are much better than Rutger’s because they are roomier and more modern. I visited Rutgers but it lacked in my comparison to Ramapo. Ramapo’s acceptance rate is also lower than Rutger’s and has a smaller campus community… meaning, there are fewer Ramapo degrees than Rutgers which would make you more valuable. I am not arguing to those who like Rutgers better… I am saying that for me, Ramapo was the campus that had everything for me.

oooo and also, campus housing is only given freshman and sophomore year in Rutgers. In Ramapo you can live on campus all four years… Def. a huge perk.

I am seriously considering Ramapo. I visited the college and it is the nicest campus by far that I have seen. The cost would be a great help to my parents, because I was previously considering Fordham and Rutgers NB.

I am out of state, but received a nice scholarship.

I know Fordham is ranked much higher, as is Rutgers, but from my research, Ramapo is a fairly new college --completed in 1979. EVERY year it rises in the rankings. it is now at 25 in best Northeast Regionals.

I think if I could come out of college relatively debt free, rather than, say, Fordham, which would cost tens of thousands more a year, I am leaning towards Ramapo.

Anyone have experience with Ramapo?

I added my above post to a new thread, since this was an older thread.

In today’s economy, your best bet is to attend the school that’s more established. Rutgers is a bigger school and offers more opportunities to succeed. More job recruiters, more internships, larger facilities, and of course there’s a social element…which is non-existent at Ramapo.
