Random but Neccessary Questions

D++ is Direct Connect, which I mentioned earlier. Yeah people use it. But since it’s not the easiest thing to use, you won’t find as many people doing it. I mean think of how many people torrent, then cut that in half.

A/C in the Dorms?

Oh man, talk about bringing a thread back alive.
Five months. I mean, wow.

I suppose there’s been longer hiatuses.

And, yes, i believe there is air conditioning.

actually i beg to differ on the issue of air conditioning – i don’t think they have any … at least when i lived my 2 years on campus we didn’t. san diego climate is extremely mild and in my 5 years there i think i only broke out a portable fan a half-dozen times.

it’s not so much an issue of location as it is the cheap UCs – take davis, for example. summertime highs often hit >100F (this can start in june and last into september) and not even their dorms have A/C.

astrina:
which college were u in?

Astrina UC Davis dorms DO have air conditioning…all of them. It is not 100 degrees in Davis in late September when school starts, and when school gets out in early June it is rarely in the 100’s yet.

Ok, my bad on the A/C issue in the UCD dorms (I wasn’t a student there, this was only through word of mouth) but I still stand by the temperatures. According to the weather channel, Davis averages for June and September are both 88F, with record highs of 115 and 112 respectively.

Summer days in the Sacramento area are pretty gross, with most residents seeking air-conditioned comfort for most of the day. At night it’s actually quite nice, and occasionally you’ll get a Delta breeze blowing through. I lived my 18 years there, but don’t think I’ll be moving back anytime soon…

Oh, and I was in Revelle. Blake Hall my freshman year, Pepper Canyon my second.

I live in Sacramento too. The average would be what you would look at for temperature and not the record highs. The average is a pleasant 88 degrees. I don’t find the Sacramento heat unpleasant at all because it is dry heat. Give me low to no humidity and 100 degrees over 50%+ humidity and 80 degrees ANYTIME! The delta breeze is way more than an occasional visitor and evenings and nights are amazing. Summer weather is not an issue for most UC students but any that do stay in Davis will find everything is air conditioned, and there are many pools.

The average temp. in July is high 93.8 and low 77.4
August high is 92.5 and low 76.7

umm. Thanx for the uc davis weather report LOL jk

OK so I got some serious questions.
Im a HS Junior
Can anyone tell me bout the Cognitive Science, Psychology and Biology Majors.
Im thinking bout ERC.
So wat are the chances of getting a single in the Dorms?

I’m an ERC 1st year who is currently a neuroscience major but is seriously considering changing to cogsci.

I haven’t taken any bio courses yet, but I did take Intro to cogsci, which was arguably the awesomest class I’ve ever taken. It was an introduction to all the different aspects of cogsci, including neuroscience, human computer interaction, and child development. The thing I really like about cogsci is that I can always find one part of it I really like and then specialize in it. By the end of my four years, I can at least go into the real world with knowledge of biology, psychology, and some basic computer science. For more information about the different topics of cogsci, go here: [UCSD: Cognitive Science - Home > Undergraduates > Major > Specialization](http://www.cogsci.ucsd.edu/index.php?cat=undergrads&page=major-ug_specialization)

Actually I lied. I took upper div genetics and dropped out of it after the first midterm. I don’t regret it one bit. But that’s just my biased opinion.

As for ERC requirements, it’s not as bad if AP’s can get you out of everything. By the time I entered college, I had already gotten past my foreign language, science, math, and one half of my art requirements. Otherwise you might be putting at heavy load on yourself because there’s still the MMW and regional specialty courses to consider.

The MMW courses are interesting, but it’s really the TA’s that make or break your grade. There are three papers for the course I’m currently taking, but according to a bunch of humanities majors I’ve spoken to, that’s nothing compared to a typical lit or polisci class. If you like learning about anthropology, philosophy, history, and literature then go ahead and sign up for ERC.

Getting a single will be tough. There are 15 girls in my suite, but there’s only one singles and one doubles room. I live in a triple, but it’s not as nightmarish as everybody else makes it out to be.

2 questions:

1) so there is NO a/c in any of the dorms on campus?
2) how’s the wireless connection in dorms (marshall dorms specifically)

I think ERC has A/C…but I’m not entirely sure. And I believe all dorms have wireless, but it is encouraged to bring your own router.

ERC doesn’t have A/C

unless they changed it recently, the dorms DIDN’T have wireless. they do, however, have very nice and fast wired connections (we happily napster’ed and DC++'ed every day).

some dorms are close enough to wireless hotspots that they can pick up the main UCSD signal, my pepper canyon apartment was able to feed off the signal coming from the lodge.

ERC doesn’t have A/C but even yesterday and today (the hottest days yet since septmeber) the temperature inside has been perfectly comfortable.

My reshall tour guide said there is wireless pretty much throughout the campus. So I’m assuming wifi is in the dorms too.

don’t download 3 of my friends have gotten caught already.

i’m preeeetty sure we have A/C in my suite.

yeah there’s wireless in the res halls, thought the UCSD signal is stronger the the Frankfurter (my building) one. go figure.. it’s cool though, i use my ethernet cable. it’s more secure and faster.

does anyone have information on TMC reshalls (preferably pictures of dorms, etc)? what are the chances that freshmen dorm in the apartments?
can i fit a mini fridge in a triple room?

oh yea, and i did not get a chance to go to admit day… so does setting up a regular tour of the school suffice?
