Random Extra Essay

I hate how there is no extra "Why WashU" essay, because I feel like I have so much to say about why it is the perfect school for me.

Would it be really weird if I threw in an extra essay (about oh, 300 words?) to the mix? Or should I just wait to do that in case I'm waitlisted?

I reallyreally want to go to this school :-)

i did ED and got in with the essay on the common app, so i think that you should just do that one essay, but mos def show interest through other ways. the best way i think is in the essay. that is the perfect place to say i think washu is a perfect fit for me. that is exactly what i did. also just keep in contact with admissions and that should show a lot of interest.

Alright, thanks for the suggestion! I'm just concerned as I'm applying RD :-/

When my daughter applied to WashU (she's now a junior), her admissions rep. encouraged her to send any and all materials she thought would strengthen her application. She wrote a very lengthy and detailed "Why WashU?" essay, which made a very strong case for the appropriateness of the match between the school and her. We'll never know for sure, of course, but I think the essay was an important factor in her acceptance.

Thank you so much, map! It definately seems like an extra essay would not hurt, as long as it actually had something to say.

Yay.

A perfect chance to say why you want to go is during the interview.

Yeah, I did that...but I guess I just hoped that an extra essay would show just how much I wanted to go there?

My on-campus interview sucked (nothing negative, but it was entirely inconsequential and it was a first interview for both of us). But I turned in my RD application in early November, hopefully that helps? And I'm applying for a scholarship. Too bad I didn't think of writing an extra essay.
