Random fun because I'm bored: guess where I applied, ended up

Okay, so... I already know where I'm headed next year, but I only discovered this site after I had applied (on another username, of course). So, I never did a "chance me!" thread or a suggestions thread... so let's see what you'd give me! The winner just wins dignity unless you can think of some other prize you'd like to receive.

What you guess: my college list in order of preference, whether or not I did any EA/ED, and where I'm actually going next year. (Bonus: please tell me you know what my username is from.)

"STATS": 2250, 750 on Spanish, 740 on Math II, took 10 AP exams in total with a mix of fours/fives last year, small private school does not rank or calculate GPA but without weighting, my average would be around a low A-. I was a very dedicated editor of the school paper and had won some prestigious Spanish National Honor Society awards/scholarships, in addition to a few other activities and community service things that showed that I was kind of involved in more ways than one. I wrote some of my essays on my interest in making connections across communities and within communities through my journalism and bilingualism efforts, with some pretty solid anecdotes. That sounds stupid and show-horse-ish but I really do have a passion that I believe I expressed pretty solidly in my essays. My recs were amazing as far as I know; I've only seen one of them but because I go to a small school, the people recommending me knew me very well. I also had the normal rich kid add-ons that almost everyone on this forum seems to have had... summer programs that relate to my interests and whatnot.

PREFERENCES: I wanted to be in a city. Really, really, really wanted. That was my main criteria. Link this back to my journalism/Spanish interests and you might understand me even better as an applicant. I also wanted somewhat of a campus community, though, because while I've grown sick of my tiny high school, I actually do value having a community and feeling like a student and having school spirit. I wanted a medium to large student body with lots of things going on. I live in the northeast and would prefer to not have to take an airplane. I also realized through my college search that I am most excited about learning when I'm applying what I've learned in the "real world"... schools with service-based classes and schools that offer an education with a practical emphasis really drew me in, a lot. I'm still very interested in developing my knowledge in more than one area and haven't totally narrowed down my interests completely anyway (and besides, what kind of crappy journalist only specializes in how to write, and nothing else) so I don't really need total freedom but am not drawn to a really huge "core." I'm also really interested in teaching/educational psychology so a solid education program or a solid psychology program, or both, would be ideal, and a solid social work program would also really interest me... although my parents have always been pushing me towards a writing career. (Awkward/uncomfortable, as I love writing but teaching ESL/Spanish/literacy would be really fulfilling for me, something service-oriented like that... :-)

HOOKS: I am white female, and I'm not first generation or from a strange state or anything, but I was a legacy at my first choice. I also wasn't recruited for athletics or anything.

3, 2, 1... GO!

How many schools are there total.

i say columbia, u chicago, usc, george washington, rice… i’m out of ideas

ok too difficult to figure out where you applied, but your screen name is from the lyrics of “Lay lady lay”

Well, looking back on my list, it was skewed by a few outside factors so I’ve recalculated what I believe should have been my actual list. But, alright… if you can guess 5 of the 8 schools that I was seriously considering, and correctly identify both my first choice and my actual destination, then you win.

I won’t respond to your post just yet. I want to see what people suggest naturally. Where do you think I’d end up going next year, out of that list?

Rodney–yep.

Wow, I thought I was being obvious with where I applied/am going… I guess not!

I would have to guess Northeastern…actually that description def sounds like Northeastern University

You mention a popular city so…

Boston University
Standford University

Northeastern was my first thought, too, though I could see BC, BU, Stanford, UCLA on the list as well.

I say add USC as well

Edit: oops, that was already in the 1st post.

Maybe UPenn, UCBerkeley, NYU?

did you guys read the original post thoroughly? it says they did not want to leave the northeast region. (S)he included something along the lines of “applying education to the real world” which is not the philosophy of BC or BU.

^The whole interest in Spanish threw me off, it would make sense if she considered schools in Cali/West Coast.

I would have guessed Northeastern as well good opportunities for international coops.

Well I eliminated most cities that are not as diserable as I thought the OP was stating… by saying Really, Really, Really, wanted ( a city where many urge to live in). Though the OP could just be stating a city they really wanted to live in themself.

Legacy at Dartmouth, applied to U PENN, Columbia, Sarthmore, Williams, Brown…maybe?

Columbia, Princeton, NYU, BC, Georgetown, UPenn, and Brown.

I’m guessing you ended up at Brown.

Brown, probably EA/ED.

Hey, we think alike logicwarrior!

I’m gonna guess you applied to: Upenn, Cornell, Duke, BC, Umich, USC, Dartmouth, and MIT.

You probably wanted to go to Cornell, but instead are going to BC

LOL where did you go because i know i am right! These people have poor reading comprehension skills ahhhhhhhhhh ; ) NEU is huge with philanthropy, coops, journalism…this must be it!

Could be Northwestern, but it’s an uncomfortable drive distance from Boston. Northeastern sounds probably too. Who knows, not enough info.
