yes im very interested also...can anyone give some good information?

i am going to attend BU this fall, but from what i've seen/heard:

1) it's a scattered campus. the university is "built" into the city, so it doesn't have it's own secluded area since it's in the heart of Boston.
2) i'm sure they have great facilities, it's BU!!
3) don't know enough about the SMG program.

This link might address point #2:

i've heard that SMG is the hardest college at BU and people are very competitive, but that could just be a rumor. also, to correct otacon88, it's not really in the heart of Boston. it's closer to Brookline, which is more of a mini-city.

I wouldn't use the word scattered, it's not like BU is scattered all over town. Rather, it's literally a very long but narrow rectangle. Most of the campus, besides Warren Towers (which is across the street) and the Medical Campus, are within this rectangle. There are definately some parts of campus that actually "feel" like a campus like walking down bay-state road or the BU beach. The basketball courts that we have are indoors and at the FitRec. There are about 4 I believe, but their use is rotated for volleyball and other intramural sports that may need to use the courts. I am taking a class at SMG and I find no downsides or negatives to this, but since I am not fully enrolled there I guess I can't answer that one.

GOBU....how would you rate your experience at Boston U...so far?

10/10. I have had the best possible experience in all aspects of the university from meeting tons of new people, to my classes and professors. Because BU is so close to the city, Boston is your backyard and you become such an integral part of it which adds so much to the college experience. I guess its easy to meet lifelong friends at any college, but to meet people from all over the country and from all walks of life is unparalleled. The one gripe that I, and most other students have, has to do with the shortage of housing, and the rules within the dorms. I just mention this because it is the ONLY complaint I have about the university.

Does the 40/60 girl boy ratio affect your social life at all?

i think you meant 40/60 boy girl ratio. but i doubt it will affect social life too much. just a bonus for males = )

Naah, you can't even tell. I mean, there's a bunch of all girls floors and in some of my classes, theres only 2 other guys, but pertaining to the social life, it's really un-noticeable.

BU is technically in boston, but it's not downtown.. it's about 2.5 miles from downtown. it has a semi-city feel to it because it's still integrated with some non-BU stores and restaurants. but most buildings on the campus are BU's.. and most people you see on the campus are BU students.

the campus is a 1-mile stretch of comm ave, a 3-lane highway on either side.. with a trolley/train/aboveground-subway/T in the middle. it's very easy to find directions.. you either go left or right. and it's easy to travel.. with a free westbound T train.

2) BU's FitRec (fitness and recreation center) is one of the nation's best.. basketball, weight room, 2 pools, a lazy river, volleyball, indoor soccer, inline hockey, squash, indoor track, dance studio, and even a climbing wall - all free for BU students. has 7 potential basketball courts.. i say potential cuz they are also sometimes used for other sports. but at least one court is almost always open for basketball. you'll be fine as a basketball fan. and basketballs, among some other sports equipment, are free for rental. the fitrec is located on west campus.. it's a 2-minute walk away from west campus, a popular freshman dorm complex.

i'm in COM.. but i have a few SMG friends.. they all say the work is very competitive but still manageable. all i personally know is that the SMG building is probably the nicest on campus.

There are several areas that feel more like a traditional campus with lawn and tree areas. It feels like a campus to us but without the walled in sections like you see at many colleges in New England.
Is BU still mailing out the pop ups maps to students once they ENROLL?

^^^@sincere: Yeah, I got the pop-up maps a couple of weeks back.....

yea i just got that, its pretty cool. I've never been to Boston and wanted to know if you could compare it to another place? Like is Boston a smaller version of NYC or something??

i want a pop up map!!! >.<

Boston is MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller than New York and it is a very different atmospehere.

Boston is way smaller and cleaner and friendlier than NYC. Unfortuntaly there is less diversity in Boston but thats improving. You'll be able to figure out how to get around Boston in a few weeks whereas NYC can be a mystery even after years of living there or so I'm told. You are not on an island so you don't feel stuck.

Yes, there is less diversity in Boston than in New York, but believe me, there is a TON of it. Being a minority, I have never had to worry about being singled out or anything, it's a great city and place.
