OK, guys. This is where everyone can ask the questions they want to ask, but don't have to start a whole new thread. So here are a couple of mine:

1) Is it better to get your money in early so you can get better dorms, or is it just the luck of the draw what you end up getting?

2) When does school actually start next fall?

3) Are any of you Catholic (don't have to answer that one, I'm just curious).

4) When is the financial aid stuff due?

5) Are you guys mostly conservative/Republican or liberal/Democrat? Will Republicans be looked down upon at GT?

6) Call me stupid, but will someone please explain to me one more time what Hoya Saxa means. I was told on a tour once, but I can't remember...

Housing is determiend by the luck of the draw. If you want the best dorm, apply for either Justice in Action or Outdoor Adeventure Community Service Special Interest housing. That way, you'll live in the brand new Southwest Quad (wireless internet access!!)

School starts at the end of August, around the 27th I believe (it varies year to year).

I'm Catholic.

Financial Aid forms are due at the beginning of Feburuary (the 1st I believe).

I'm a very right wing Republican, but the campus is moderately conservative. There isn't a shortage of liberal students, though.

Hoya Saxa is from gree/latin, and it means "what rocks", most likely refereing to the rocks outside of Healy Hall (I think).

Hope this helps!!

Dorms are done by luck of the draw for freshmen, unless you sign up for a special interest living community or pre-orientation program in which case you live in whatever dorm that living community or program is housed in, but you wouldn't necessarily know what dorm that program is housed in when you sign up because sometimes it changes I believe.

This year freshmen arrived the last weekend in August and classes started on the 1st of September.

Don't know about aid.

Just generally speaking, I believe half the students body identifies themselves as Catholic, but don't quote me on that.

The College Dems are really active here, more so than the Republicans, and the profs tend to be liberal. I'd say the student body is 50/50 though-I know more Dems than Reps here, but I think that is just because I am a Dem and friends tend to be like you.

Hoya Saxa means "What Rocks."

Sorry about repeating info there, alukaszewicz types faster than I do apparently:)

How soon after we send in our deposit do we start to get housing stuff and information about next year, like class registration and books and such?

Oh, and I'm a liberal Jew. I'm glad to see that the campus is politically balanced.

Hey just a general question, when I think of Georgetown I think of one of the most prestiguous schools in the country. However, I've looked at the college rankings, and its in the low 20s overall. I don't want to sound arrogant, because that is really high, but I thought it would be much higher. I have friends going to Wash U that are far less qualified than me and Wash U is like in the top 10. Anyone know?

One of the things that brings down Georgetown's ranking is the fact that it has a small and shrinking endowment, which obviously the school is trying to rectify, but it brings them down in the rankings. Also, people just have to get over the rankings. I know I have way more work in SFS than I would have had had I gone to UVA or someplace ranked higher. Georgetown also has a very high international profile due to its International Affairs program. I wouldn't worry about it.
