Hi! My D is a soph at Scripps, and I will do my best to answer your questions.

  1. I don’t know the numbers, but there are certainly Jewish women at Scripps. If you are Jewish and hope to make Jewish friends, don’t worry. I would not say the environment is religious, no. But definitely very tolerant of all beliefs. Plus, there are 4 other campuses where you can join Jewish organizations, or just meet people.
  2. Yes, my D became a vegetarian after her first year. Not that it’s required ;).
  3. No, not high-pressure. Very supportive and collaborative. Everyone wants to do her best, and people help each other out.
  4. My D only seems stressed during finals. There is a lot of writing, which is time-consuming and sometimes makes her wonder how it will all get done, but it always does. She is actually less stressed than in HS bc she was over-scheduled then. Number? Would probably range from 0-8 depending on timing.
  5. Hahaha! No, not until Jr and Sr years. But Scripps just received a huge donation to build another dorm… And my D lucked into an AMAZING housing situation this year.
  6. Quality people - my D LOVES the people she’s met. Considers her roommate to be the sister she never had, and has so enjoyed the social life. She does a sport and has an on-campus job, and has made great friends at both. The sport involvement is really nice, as it has allowed her to meet people from Claremont and Mudd, as well as Scripps. She also loves the party scene - very inclusive. Laughably easy to meet guys if you are at all outgoing, according to her.

Any further questions, let me know. Good luck!

Hi! I’m a current Scripps senior and I’ll try and answer your questions to the best of my ability.

  1. Scripps, while not super "religious," is very tolerant and accepting. I have friends of all faiths who are members of various religious student groups and organizations. For more information about religion on campus, look at http://www.cuc.claremont.edu/chaplains/.
  2. There are definitely vegetarians - some of my best friends! - and people do seem generally concerned with environmental issues and animal rights.
  3. Scripps is academically rigorous and competitive but is also a very supportive environment. Students are willing to help each other out and want to see everyone succeed.
  4. I would say time management is important. Make time for sleep!
  5. My first year I lived in a triple with two other girls in Routt Hall. My second year, I lived in a seven person suite, also in Routt, where everyone had their own single room but we shared two bathrooms and a common room. My third and fourth year I had no problems getting a single room on campus.
  6. Impossible to pick just one thing! The community of passionate students, the consortium, and the weather isn't too bad either. I couldn't be happier with my choice.

There’s a Hillel for the consortium. Here’s the info–http://www.cuc.claremont.edu/hillel/
