Now that "Ask Me" threads are not allowed, I figured I'd start a thread where current students can jump in and answer specific questions that aren't worthy of their own thread.

Here's mine: Please tell me what school you attend, and talk about whether it is friendly or competitive academically, and explain why and whether or not most student would agree with you.

I kind of expect this thread to be an utter failure. Prove me wrong.

Oh man, I still have one app to finish! It’s my plan for tomorrow. And then Monday is off for MLK, so I’ll do my cooking then… I’m already psyched for February break, an anomaly I won’t have at prep school. :D

The application I’m pushing off is kind of my last choice and a school I do not want to attend. Unfortunately my mother is forcing me to apply. So I’m going to procrastinate it and work on my school work instead.

Speaking of breaks, I expected boarding schools to have long winter breaks (long like 3 or 4 weeks long) but I checked their school calenders and I was proven wrong! Quite a disappointment but hey, they aren’t called prestigious for nothing. I would love those surprise days off that the headmaster announces.

No snow days, but some times they let you go in casual dress instead of class dress because of bad weather. See? An advantage to attending a BS with a dress code!

I think that I’d like wearing a jacket on weekdays. It seems very civilized (not that nondress codes are not civilized, but it just seems very civilized)

I mean dressing up can be fun but I want to wear what I want to wear. My normal style is usually a skirt because I like skirts but blazers are so unvomfortable. No dress code seems much more laidback and I feel that it encourages individuality and “expressing yourself”. I don’t even wear sweatpants or t-shirts to school unlike most kids so I do dress nicely but wearing a blazer everyday in my opinion seems very uptight and I’m more of a relaxed person. I want to… make my own decisions.

However I do know many kids that would LOVE to wear a suit and blazer everyday to class. There are already a bit of those in my current school.

So it all depends on personal preference. Dress codes don’t work in my favor because my style is all over the place plus, I’m not a preppy kid.

My brother was never preppy. He went to an all boys prep school from middle school to high school. So his whole life he dressed in t-shirts outside of school. But his college is very preppy with many kids from boarding schools so his style has completely changed. He(my mom) never spent a lot of money on his clothes but whoa nellie has that changed.

I’ve learned about patagonia, Vineyard Vines, Brooks Brothers, and Bean Boots all from him.

I would actually enjoy dressing up. Im “known” in my school to wear athletic clothes, so I would feel awkward if I switch to vineyard vines and boat shoes. But I would LOVE to wear that to school. But I would also like one day, may be fridays where I can wear athletic clothing or sweatpants to feel comforatable the end of the week.

Haha that’s funny in my school I’m “known” to dress nicely and “hipster” and it gets really annoying because whenever I dress in something comfortable people always feel the need to point it out. So dressing in sweats would be nice.

That’s kind of like me. I like wearing the occasional suit but every day would be kind of a hassle. I like wearing whatever I feel like wearing that morning.

Er, I know this isn’t in the same vein as the conversation has been going, but I don’t want to start a new thread, so here goes:

Agh! I wanted really badly to shadow at the schools I applied to, but I just looked at one of the visitation schedules and the next open date is Apr. 22, which is after the date I have to accept/decline. I assumed there would be a lot of visitation opportunities between Mar. 10 and Apr. 10, but there aren’t any! What do I do?
