My spout diverter is doing the same thing. I did some youtube diy videos where I took it off, soaked it in vinegar, cleaned it well, and tried to re-seat it. Didn’t work :(. My H is going to try to replace it with a new one.
We have the same shoppers. Birds in our area eye our jute rug for nest material:
Now that our cat is gone, they might as well bring shopping carts.
Why is it whenever I remove socks from the dryer, I can not get a pair without pulling out everything? I just wanted to grab a pair and go, but no, I had to take almost everything out just to find two socks that match! My husband said that is what I get for buying the multi packs from Costco; easy for him to say since his same multi packs only are trimmed in grey or black. Plus, if I didn’t pair his socks for him, he wouldn’t care what color he was wearing. ! These are the first 5 I pulled out.
LOL- and even worse, if you have bombas, if you have several pair in the same color, they have, believe it or not, a right and a left sock (marked with a R and L) so even if you find two of the same color you might have 2 rights or 2 lefts!
Would you expect a VRBO to provide shampoo? How many rolls of toilet paper?
I would expect the host to provide a starter thing of shampoo, but TP… if it is not provided in sufficient quantities, the renters will not be happy. Expect crappy reviews!
Yes they should provide toiletries and TP. We stayed in a VRBO for a month in Feb, and fortunately I knew in advance that while it had many things we needed, it was very “bare bones” and had essentially no cookware or kitchenware (despite a full kitchen!) So we had to borrow pots/pans/silverware from our kids (it had laundry detergent and those beads you put in the washer to make the clothes smell good, but no pots/pans??? It had shampoo/lap and 2 rolls of TP, but I brought extra just in case !
I just returned from a week long rental in an east coast beach town. Not a VRBO but through a rental company. I was really surprised that there was not a blow dryer to be found in the 4 BR house, and they hardly had any toilet paper there (less than 1 roll total, probably less than half a roll), no paper towels, no dish soap, no “starter kit” of any kind. I guess I’m used to VRBO where they do seem to provide some of these things.
I though you were going to say that you have a sock eating dryer like I have. Socks always go missing…sometimes they show up with the under wear.
IME, socks wind up tied up in the sheets.
Socks lost in dryers make up Saturn’s rings.
My D and grandkids are usually in unmatched socks. Too bad this wasn’t an ok style when my kids were home! So many wasted hours…finally I had everyone safety pin as they took off and that did work well.
TP, yes, most provide a new roll on and another in standby for each bathroom. There are sometimes more under a counter. Shampoo many don’t. We take all of our own toiletries when we travel. We tend to even bring TP because it’s in our “box” that comes with the basics. There’s usually dish soap, cookware (not fancy), hand soap, and sometimes, towels - other times paper towels. Hair dryers are hit and miss. I take my own and we also often have an extension cord.
Interesting. I have never seen a VRBO provide shampoo. They certainly could, like a hotel. I’d still take my ow favorite anyway. I would appreciate a hair dryer so as not to have to pack that. What irked me at one was having to purchase paper towels and TP. I brought the remained of my purchase home. I guess that’s really petty but really? Force the renter to go fetch that kind of thing?
When I’ve seen shampoo provided it’s all in a cute little presentation of soaps and usually some niche provider.
We still use our own.
The VRBO I stayed at last week provided a roll and 1/4 of toilet paper, but no shampoo. It sounds like your experience, @Creekland. It’s such a pain to have to go out and get this, as there were no stores on our island. We did get a cute little bottle of dish soap, dishwasher soap, paper towels, and small bath soap bars.
@Creekland, it really depends on the location and the price point. I am on over 30 vacation rental forums and it is amazing to hear the different cultures of regions. Who knew you bring your own linens in many places in the NE? Who knew cotton v. microfiber sheets can start a 200+ post war among hosts? And what about asking guests to throw a load of towels in the wash before they leave (laundry is often the slowest thing and so many guests want early check in, it’s really helpful); that is tantamount to drawing a red line in the sand and hosts will shame each other relentlessly!
I provide all the basics- shampoo/conditioner/body wash in dispensers, but I see other hosts who are inventorying the TP & other stuff and cannot believe how much people use. We usually put extra TP in each bathroom and hide one more package in the house so the people who think they should clear you out of every little thing don’t take it, but if a guest group uses more than we expected, we can tell them where to find more.
It’s also interesting how often guests do not use the shampoo etc., obviously bringing their own. Those individual shampoos are annoying, I did that the first season and my cleaners saved all the partial bottles, I was using those up for months, because why waste, but realized, the little bottles are so wasteful, both the plastic in the trash and not using up what’s inside. So we switched to dispensers.
I think enough TP should be provided, but a place under $100/night or a place with longer terms stays might only do a starter pack.
We typically bring our own shampoo, bath wash, etc., but “expect” a place to provide a sponge, small dish soap, a couple of dishwasher pods, and at least 1 roll of paper towels and 1 roll of TP for each bathroom. This last place we could have paid close to 200 bucks to rent linens (towels and sheets), but we chose to bring our own. I think in my experience most VRBO type places have done the “off brand” supply of soap, etc., in bathrooms, or had dispensers on the wall.
I did leave some TP when we left the no TP place. I wonder if it will stay there for the next tenants, or if they rental company will take it out.
We almost always have sleeping bags with us and take our own pillows (if not staying in a motel) so linens aren’t needed for us. Where we are now they don’t provide them. I think they did where we stayed last August, but I’m not sure I put it into long term memory because those things simply don’t affect us.
If I were renting out a place on an island without supplies nearby, I would assume the owner would provide the basics, but the last island without bridge access that we stayed on was camping in the Dry Tortugas so we knew we had to bring everything including water with us.
We’re extremely flexible and can be happy in almost any situation, lack of flush toilets included. I’m glad that’s our nature (all of us) as it makes traveling and seeing the world that much more fun. We’d be really restricted or often unhappy if we had a high bar.
Except I don’t think providing shampoo is a high bar!!! Or linens!
@toledo I would probably pack a travel sized shampoo no matter where I go , but honestly would think the VRBO or AIRBNB would have it. If you’re picky bring your own, but for a few days I appreciate the convenience!
