Thank you! Did not think about motion detector inside! Perfect. Just ordered.
I see you already ordered but we have a motion detector night light that plugs into an outlet.
She said there was no outlet in the needed area.
Oops, missed that.
We also use the motion detector night lights that plug in, I am surprised how much I love them, so plugged in or battery operated, they are pretty helpful
I have infrared night lights at my mom’s place that plug into an outlet and light when it’s dark. They’re quite reasonable too.
Random question that doesn’t deserve it’s own thread…
If you’re a podcast listener, do you listen on 1x speed? 1.5x speed? More?!!!
I was listening to a podcast today where they were talking about listening to podcasts (haha) and one guy said he always listens 1.5x speed. Gosh, it would be great to listen through podcasts faster but would I absorb info as well? Would I be more or less distracted when listening when driving?
Or maybe certain podcasts/podcasters voices are more conducive to listening faster???
I listen to podcasts when I run, always at 1x. I once listened to the end of an audiobook faster (1.5x?) at end of a roadtrip, needing to finish before book club the next day.
I often listen at 1.5x, I don’t find any difference in retainment. I hate when people speak slowly. If someone speaks quickly though I have to set it back to 1x.
I listen to podcasts at regular speed. I listen to audio books at 1.5X. I find 1.0X too slow for a book. The narrators sound stuck in molasses sometimes at regular speed.
For me, 1x is too slow, and 1.5 is too fast. That’s one of several reasons that led me to seek out an alternative to the default Apple podcast app. I settled on Overcast, which lets you select speed on a scale with more options. I think I settled on about 1.3. I have no trouble understanding and absorbing things at that speed.
I often listen to 1.5x or 2.0x - depending on the topic. If it’s a ‘hard content’ (like, real estate transaction info) then I’ll go faster because I don’t want to sit through chit chat and I can get to the info I need more quickly.
If it’s a podcast where part of the charm is the funny and engaging interactions between the hosts (e.g., Maintenance Phase or We Can Do Hard Things) I listen at 1x speed…
I never even thought of listening to a podcast at faster than 1x. Isn’t it weird? I don’t like fast talking, though. I do skim videos or watch them faster sometimes for how-to content and the like, but I like to absorb a podcast or audio book and savor it and I can’t imagine enjoying it speeded up.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I will usually listen to the first chapter or two at 1x speed to get a grasp of the background and characters. Then I will listen to the rest at 1.5x. If the narrator has an accent, I sometimes need to do 1.25.
I’m guessing with some practice your mind adjusts to the faster pace? I’ll try it sometime!
I listen to podcasts at 1x, but always speed up audiobooks to 1.25x. Maybe it’s because I only listen to podcasts I really want to hear and absorb the facts. In the case of the books, I’m usually listening to something for my book club and I’d rather get through it faster. I don’t care about speeding up a 30 minute podcast. A 12-14 hour book is another story.
I believe this is true. I know a young man who is blind who listens to everything at a pace so fast that I can hardly identify it as English.
Your mind definitely adjusts. I remember my son hated his English teacher at first who spoke super fast and he just couldn’t follow her. After a couple weeks he was able to follow easily and really enjoyed her.
I now have the opportunity to download Windows 12. I am curious to hear other people’s impressions about this new operating system.
