Random Questions

I find super casual dresses are the most comfortable and cooler than shorts. (and look better).

I just bought some great, lightweight khakis (plus one in that versatle olive khaki color,) for hanging out. Light enough to roll up the legs. Actually, nice enough for a casual meal.

I remember when I moved to New England, you couldn’t buy summer (or winter vacation) clothes in mid-winter. Nor iced tea, lol.

I like wearing skorts in summer - hides the shape of my thighs but light and comfortable. I have very casual denim and khaki ones, and a nicer “golfing skirt” one that can dress up well for dinner.

Long pants all year but fabric weight and style will vary depending on the season.

@VeryHappy – wear whatever you want! Me I like my shorts/skirt combinations (specifically from SparkleSkirts).

I seem to have a lot of random questions.

I have a double oven that self-cleans. Life is good. I read somewhere that, when running the self-clean cycle, one should not leave the racks inside the oven, as the high heat will somehow ruin the smoothness of the racks and make it difficult to slide them in and out. So, since I always follow the rules, I don’t leave them in the oven during the self-clean cycle.

So how do I clean those racks? I wind up with a shiny clean oven and filthy racks. They are way too big to put in my kitchen sink to scrub.

@VeryHappy I take them outside in the back yard on the gravel, spray them with oven cleaner, let them sit for a while, then scrub them and hose them down. Usually it’s a nice day when I do this to make it a less onerous task…

Know that trick with dryer sheets, to clean scorched pots? Haven’t tried it but looks so easy. I see this:
“… line your bathtub with dryer sheets. Lay the oven racks on top of the sheets, fill the tub with just enough warm water to cover the racks and add a half-cup of dish soap. …sit overnight. Drain the tub in the morning and use the soaked dryer sheets to wipe the racks clean.”

Don’t know if a tub is wide enough, but i suppose I could try a big trash bag.

Ditto

Or you could be like me and not read the instructions before doing the first self-clean. The racks are no longer shiny but still very functional - and clean.

@doschicos, do they slide in and out without difficulty?

I’d say there is a some degree of performance decline in that aspect but its been awhile so I can’t really remember their new state too well at this point. However, I cook and bake a lot and I manage just fine. Because I cook and bake a lot, I do clean my oven fairly frequently so its nice not to have to worry about the racks since that ship has sailed.

The nice thing about having a combo steam oven is that steam cooking make cleaning the oven a breeze.

Vitamin shopping is so confusing. Does anyone take omega 3’s? Is it supposed to have DHA or contain Krill oil?
Looking at the vitamin aisle is overwhelming.

I also dislike how more and more vitamin bottles are completely opaque and are usually hiding “horse pills” inside. Please go back to the dark brown translucent bottles so we can see the pills before we buy them!

I like gummy vitamins. I’ve never grown up.

Another random question: We are finally planning to get rid of the landline and port the # to our cable/internet bundle and have it on VoIP. We have had cordless phones with one base station and handsets throughout the house. I was told I need to make sure they bring the dialtone not just to the modem but to the base station of the phone and possibly to the jacks in the house. Anyone know about this? How to be sure all the phones work?

My base station connects to the modem. There are no jacks involved.

My modem is on a different floor than my phone base station, in a closet not near the phone.

@jym626, I am not terribly tech savvy but, as I understand it, for VOIP the modem is what connects to the base phone. There is no connection to the copper wire system running through your home. So you may need to relocate one or the other.
