I’ve had pot fillers in 2 houses over the past 13 years with never a problem. I love them for convenience and a little bling at the stove. Yes, you do have to take the pot to the sink after cooking, but it’s usually lighter at the end of cooking. And when I use it for the tea kettle, I fix the tea at the stove and there is nothing to empty at all. They are also nice for those times you need to add a little water during cooking. Both mine are from Rohl and I’ve never had a leak or worried about one.
So what do you do with the pre-run water?
What’s “pre-run water”?
The lukewarm water that has been sitting in the pipes leading to that rarely used spout and absorbing crud from the pipes. You are supposed to let the cold water run until it is definitely cold if you are going to use that water for consumption. The higher the temperature of the water, the faster it absorbs crud from the vessel is is in.
I have to say that as a person who makes stock in a huge pot the filler thingies always looked attractive, but the more I read about them here the less so they appear!
They are as much of a gimmick here in my neck of the woods as outdoor TV lounges. People who buy homes with kitchen pot fillers do not cook. Nor do they ever watch TV outdoors - too dang wet and cold.
The reason I haven’t wanted one is that the stove area gets super dirty and greasy when I’m cooking (and occasionally smoky), and it’s just one more thing with a lot of nooks and crannies to clean.
My next backsplash is going to be stainless steel. I currently have a cream cracquelure tile with grout (not my choice) and it’s a BEAR to keep it clean. I have to bleach the grout fairly regularly, ugh.
I totally agree: stainless backsplash behind the range is ideal.
Outdoor TV lounge??? Not in Maine!
Outdoor TV lounges are very popular with the Chinese buyers. It is a sign of opulence and ultimate wealth to have a large screenTV on your patio. As are those pot fillers. All new $3M+ homes around here come with them…
Well, there was that product thread where everyone wondered how to keep stainless smudge-free.
All I can think of, re: backyard recreation, is keeping mosquitoes at bay.
The mosquito situation depends on where exactly you are. In our old house – a mere five miles from here – we had gobs of wetland and, therefore, tons of mosquitoes. We couldn’t sit outside comfortably at all. In our current house, we have almost no wetland near us, and we can sit outside for hours on end with no worries. It’s a very local problem.
Also, the higher you go, the fewer of them there will be (Boltzmann distribution, lol). No bugs so far on our top floor deck.
I’m a mosquito vigilante. Known to run a fan outside, when we’re there at the wrong times.
Ooooo, good idea.
So, I’ve been having issues on my laptop, mainly with Facebook. Whenever I try scrolling through stuff, I get “A problem occurred with this website so it was reloaded.” and it reloads which basically means I can’t scroll through. Apple computer, software updates are current. Any thoughts on why this is happening and how to fix things absent stopping by an apple store? thanks!
Why not uninstall it and reinstall it?
@doschicos have you tried this diagnostic test here? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7189555?start=0&tstart=0
@elliebham Haven’t tried that yet although I tried some other advisor in that forum. Thanks for linking.
I had difficulty scrolling and finally concluded the problem was my mouse. Got a new mouse and life is good.
Microsoft did an upgrade Wednesday and now our network is all screwed up. Is this just a coincidence?
