@JustaMom5465 My son got a good stylish cut at Supercuts once. I would let them do a cut for convenience and not a drastic change and wait on the color.
What each store will do depends on the district mgr. My fav+++ stylist is at the local Supercuts, but right now isn’t allowed to dry and style, just wash and cut. Aargh. (It’s by the U, maybe they want a fast in and out business.) But when I can catch her there, she cuts just what I want, for next to no $$. In contrast, my other fancy gal never hits it right.
I find the Supercut type places are a bit of a crap shoot. Call your usual salon/stylist and get put on the wait list if you can be super flexible. It’s not unusual for stylists to have cancellations. I’ve always had luck that way. If that falls through and you still need a cut, you can walk into one of those drop in places right before you leave town.
Thanks for the responses - I’ll give her a call tomorrow (why is it always Monday when I think about this, when they’re closed???) to see if there’s a chance. Maybe she can just do a quick cut with no color…that wouldn’t take so much time…
@JustaMom5465, if you go to her regularly, is it possible she will come in early or stay a little late to help you? Both my son and I have gone this route when we were desperate.
I haven’t used the inexpensive places for many years, although as I get older and care less about my looks, I’ve considered it.
Prince Harry is now engaged to an American woman named Megan Markle. I have a dumb question - is she a person of color? Saw a little clip of them and they are so cute and so happy!
Yes. Apparently one of her parents is African American.
Update and new random question!
Update: My hairdresser can get me in late Thursday night - at 5:00 for both a cut AND a color!!
New random question: What can I do to extra specially thank her for her flexibility? Just a huge tip? Or should I bring some little “something” - and if so, WHAT??
I normally leave a tip equal to the price of my haircut (not cheap $$$) this time of the year instead of the regular 20%. I am sure cash will be appreciated.
The big tip and something yummy!
Big tip would suffice I think.
Another random question: Has anyone ever hung artwork using command hooks with success? These are framed oil paintings so no glass. Recently had the walls painted and prefer not to put holes in the new paint job in case I want to rearrange and reposition the paintings. Just curious if this is a workable solution…
I’ve hung lightweight artwork with command strips, like an unframed canvas. How much do your pieces weigh?
Most aren’t huge pieces so probably 5-10 pounds at most. Yet, I did remember we have one larger pastel framed with glass that would probably weigh 15-20 or so lbs I would think.
I might choose a small nail hole or two over the potential damage from command hooks. I’ve heard that the adhesive in the Command hooks can pull paint off of walls in some cases. My guess is that the longer the hooks are up, the more the adhesive will dry and stick to the paint. At the very least, you could try a test stickie for a few days behind a sofa or somewhere else that won’t be visible.
I’ve never hung artwork with them but I put one up as a bathrobe hook behind the door in DS’s room. It stayed up for years holding the weight of a very heavy terry robe. Left it up when I moved though so I have no idea if it caused any paint damage.
Have you tried Gorilla hooks?

Command hooks would not hold that much weight - each type specifies how much one can hold. If I recall correctly, not more than 10 lb.
And I tried to remove Command hooks that the prior owner put… ugh. Stuck like there is no tomorrow. I’d rather patch a tiny hole.
@greenwitch Megan’s mother is a natural hair-wearing African-American social worker and yoga instructor. Doria Raglan. Long divorced from Megan’s Caucasian father.

She will have a place of honor at the wedding as the bride’s mother. I hope she doesn’t cover her naturally glorious hair with a silly little “fascinator”! Of course, it can probably be done well…
Megan is older than Princess Diana was at her death.
I used Command strips to hang a framed photograph (26" square with glass) on a tiled wall in my kitchen. There is no way on earth I am drilling into that tile! I think I used 3 strips going down each side and 2 turned sideways along the top of the frame. I may have put 2 on the bottom of the frame too. It’s important to remove the paper from the back of the frame (if there is any) so that the command strips attach directly to the wood frame. It’s been hanging there close to 2 years with no problem knock on wood. I will probably replace the command strips with a new set in another year or 2 so they don’t get too old.
The directions on the Command package says to use 4 strips for a frame up to 12 pounds. I did weigh my piece first and I remember being surprised that it wasn’t actually as heavy as I estimated. The art was really expensive so I opted for overkill to make sure it didn’t come tumbling down.
Thanks for that feedback, @GRITS80. My artwork is nice as well so don’t want to damage it either.
