Command took off a 2 small paint patches in one of my kids’ rooms, too. Instead, I like the OOK brand. Very slim nails that twist out.
I have lots of items hanging with command strips. I just follow the weight instructions as to what type and how many strips I use. I’ve removed some and had no issue with paint. I have had a couple times where it stuck so hard the adhesive broke instead of peeling off. This leaves you with nothing to grab to pull it off. The trick is to use a hair dryer to heat it up then use dental floss to get between it and the wall. Works like a charm.
We have a picture hanging rail. So convenient! You can buy little hooks to hang on it and you use your fishing line or cable to hang off the hook. You can even nail the hook in place. It just looks like a nice piece of architectural detail but it’s so practical. Here’s a pic - http://www.govart.com/images/hwr_railmldg2LG.jpg
I need the help of the CC community.
When S1 was in grad school and DH and I had some cash, we purchased a [very modest] house for S1 to live in, so he wouldn’t have to take out student loans to pay for his rent. S1 paid all the utilities himself. He graduated and we sold the house on August 18, 2016.
S1 just received a notice from a collection agency claiming that he owes an electric bill with a date of service of September 14, 2016. I assume that “date of service” actually means the billing date, which suggests the bill would be for the month before September 14 – in other words, after we were out of the house.
I just checked with S1 to make sure he told the electric company to no longer charge him effective August 18. He did.
Whom do I contact – the collection agency, or the electric company? Or the new owner?! Or someone else?? What do I do about this??
TIA.
"Whom do I contact – the collection agency, or the electric company? Or the new owner?! "
No experience with such things, but if it was me, all of the above. One thing I would want to find out from the electric company is what exact timeframe the bill covers.
@VeryHappy , any time I’ve sold a property, I’ve called the electric and water companies and requested a reading on the closing date and a final bill. I think your son should call the electric company and ask them to look up that date and see when the meter was read for that billing cycle. Is it possible that the bill is just for the period of August 14 through August 18? He might owe that.
I would add getting a credit report to your list. Once you straighten it out make sure it’s not being reported as delinquent.
How sizable is the bill?
$214.28
S1 says it’s high for a monthly electric bill but not in the realm of the absurd.
Perhaps it includes additional fees like late fees and collection fees at this point?
I have no idea. It just has the amount due.
In general, if you call the utility (or another creditor,) they have the ability to “pull” the bill back from the collection agency and deal with it themselves. In my experience, utilities don’t generally report to credit bureaus. But not a bad idea to be on Credit Karma or the like. Other than their ads on their site, they don’t bug me much.
The smiling girl on the CC home page…has anyone else noticed that it looks like a small horn is growing out of her chin?
It’s her earring but a funny photo goof.
No, I hadn’t (but then again, I rarely end up on the home page…). But now that you mentioned it I’ll never be able to look at that picture the same way again! LOL!
D used one of my baking sheets as a drip pan while cooking turkey bacon in the oven. I didn’t realize she left it in the oven and preheated it…now there’s crusty baked on bacon stuff stuck to my pan. Suggestions on how to get it off?
Well, for starters, soak it in hot water and dishwashing liquid for an hour or so. If that doesn’t work, spray the pan with vinegar. Then, sprinkle baking soda on it and watch it fizz. Leave the mixture on for about 10 minutes and then it should wash off easily.
Yes to the vinegar and baking powder. Bar Keeper’s Friend and some elbow grease might do the trick, too.
Vinegar & Baking soda on the agenda for later today! Thanks, I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Already tried soaking, no luck there.

Anyone here work for or know anyone who works in BCBS/Anthem claims? They admit they made a mistake when reprocessing a claim, which is costing me many hundreds of dollars, but they won’t fix it. I will try to call back again after the holidays and then file an appeal (they haven’t formally denied the request to reprocess but they have gone dark on me) but it would help if someone here was not eh “inside” and could help.
