stanmaster22: I don't know specifically, but I remember hearing that the no-alcohol policy was especially strict during admit weekend, so if there are parties, most of them will probably be different.

There will be no alcohol during admit weekend. ANY STUDENT OR ADMIT caught drinking may have academic priveleges(or acceptance) suspended.

Sound strict enough to you?

That said, I don't believe there is much of a party life during admit... if it is it will be completely hidden, because of the crackdowns in previous years.

efilsiertaeht - hi alex! (or at least i'm assuming this is you, since it's the same SN you use on LJ... this is jenny, from gunn, btw) ~ it's been a while!

wow, it's totally random that i ran across this. a yale pre-frosh i've been put in contact with is trying to decide between yale, princeton, and stanford, and since i'm from palo alto, she wanted to know what my objective opinion about yale v. stanford is. and since i wanted to be unbiased as possible, i thought i'd look around the stanford boards and see what sorts of things people love/dislike about stanford (seeing as i already know what people love/dislike about yale :-P)

so... name your top three favorite things about stanford, and one or two things that aren't as great as they might be. 1... 2... 3... go! and help me give a pre-frosh enough information to choose the school that's right for her.

Daughter will attend Admit Weekend. What's the most reliable and easiest way for her to get from San Francisco International Airport to Stanford? The university transportation site lists many shuttle services. Are these the way to go? If so, is one better than another and do you need to make reservations?

dartcolstanmom, any chance your D can fly into San Jose airport instead? It's a much smaller airport (and therefore easier to manage your way around), it's a bit closer to stanford, and a straight shot freeway wise. D says the shuttle will take you right to your dorm. Seems like the company she has used is called SuperShuttle but my guess is that they are all pretty comparable.

dartcolstanmom - SuperShuttle has, in my experience, been very reliable. The other possibility is to fly in to SJC or SFO, take the free shuttle (at SJC) or BART (at SFO) to the nearest Caltrain station, take the train to California Avenue, and take the Marguerite shuttle to Stanford campus. That's really confusing if you've never done it before, though, and it's probably a lot for your daughter to handle on her first trip to Stanford (especially if she's traveling by herself), so I think you'd be better off with a shuttle service, if they're not too pricey.

and i agree, SJC (san jose) is a much easier airport to fly into than SFO... much smaller/friendlier. plus, JetBlue, which is practically the only airline i fly anymore, flies there. good times :-P
