Random roommate assignment question?

For the smoking question:
I put I am allergic to smoke (I only kind of am), but hows that different than saying I'm not a smoker and request a non-smoker?

For corridor question:
I put co-ed as my #1 choice. That's clearly the better option, right?

Anyone have an idea?

Smoke is a gas and it can diffuse rapidly. They will probably put you in “allergic to smoke” corridor or something whereas non-smokers would be placed in a regular corridor. Just a thought…

The dorms are all non-smoking (as is the entire campus). It’s really a leftover question from a different time.

Do they still try to pair you with a non-smoker?

When you fill out your housing application you will have the option to select substance free housing. While the dorms are technically smoke free, the fact of the matter is that many students in the dorms do still smoke (as well as drink, use drugs, etc). Since substance free housing is self-selected, none of the students in it smoke. If living with a non-smoker is a priority for you, you should opt for substance free housing.

If you put that you smoke then will put you with a smoker, that’s why the question is there in the first place.

There are some freshmen that smoke on campus, but I’ve never heard a story of there being a problem in the dorms.

@LilMoff

The reason I put allergic to smoke is because I hate the smell of smoke and it does make me cough/feel like crap. I didn’t choose substance free because I have no problem with alcohol.

Also, are most corridors co-ed?

Doesn’t mean people don’t smoke. That’s like saying the dorms are non-drinking if you’re under 21. If I remember correctly there is an option on the housing application to say you do smoke and they’re not gonna kick you out of Michigan if you pick that, so I’d bet that if you request a non-smoker you’re much more likely to get paired with that.

Do you know if and which dorms have air-conditioning? Coming from Florida and having allergies, I’m just wondering!

I think the newly renovated dorms on the hill (Couzens, Mojo, Alice Lloyd) all have AC. The only time you will ever want it though is maybe the first week, past that it’s unnecessary. You can also request an individual AC unit for any dorm with some sort of doctor’s note saying you need it.

Thank you! Do you know which dorms freshman usually live in?
