Hello everyone!
I am new to college confidential, but I was hoping a current or former student would be able to answer my question. I recently committed to Muhlenberg college for this fall and just filled out my housing application. I was surprised to see that there were so few boxes to check about preferences. I am a little concerned about how well this survey will be able to match students. So, how well do their pairings normally go? Should I try to find a roommate outside of the survey? If so, does anyone know what websites I could use? Is there an accepted students page? (I have yet to find one)
Congratulations on your acceptance to Muhlenberg! In terms of roommates, they seem to do a pretty good job of matching and I think you will find that, especially early on, groups of students travel in large bunches to activities and meals until smaller groups are formed. I have seen some students still with their first year roommate four years later and others who switch to someone else from their floor for the next three years. Best of luck to you!
@beentheredonethat Thanks for your response! It’s comforting that they have a good track record of successful roommate pairings. I had realized early on that my roommate and I wouldn’t necessarily be best friends, but I at least want to be friendly. Also, I think I’m a little paranoid because my best friend was a freshman this past year (not at Muhlenberg) and she had a horrible experience with her roommate.
My daughter found her freshman roommate on the new student Facebook group. They were both athletes and ED (admitted late in the winter) and came up with similar scores on some roommate compatibility app on that FB page. I don’t recall the name of it, but they do seem to be having a good year so far.
