Emory College:

First-year students were chosen from a record-high 17,502 applicants; the admission rate is down slightly from last year, to 26 percent.

59 percent are female, 41 percent are male.

The average student ranks higher than the 95th percentile in their class and has scored more than 700 on individual SAT sections.

Most are from Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states, but increases were noted in the West, New England and other regions; more than 12 percent are international students.

wow so i guess as a girl on the wait list i don’t really have a great chance of getting off it…darn

excited – you do have a shot if a woman declines to attend. Keep showing interest, and keep hoping. Good luck.

Ohhh YEEE 59-41 girl boy ratio? im in paradise ;)

I would have thought the upperclassmen would be in paradise … Just kidding …

Are Emory guys cute? Last time I went to Emory, I was surrounded by cute guys (but I suppose that my perspective has been skewed by the numerous mediocre guys in my school, haha)

I have a question about the statistics. My daughter is accepted and received the letter from Admissions congratulating her. The letter said they accepted 1350 out of 17,500. How do they come up with an acceptance rate of 26%? My math comes up to around 7.7%. Just wondering…

Goldengator …

Your math isn’t off, you’re just looking at the wrong numbers. Acceptance rate comes from how many students apply and how many were ACCEPTED. You’re looking at how many students ultimately ENROLL (that is, the class size). Not every student who is accepted goes on to enroll. Many have other choices and end up enrolling at other schools even if they were also accepted at Emory. That’s a concept known as “yield.”

Hope this helped. Congratulations to your daughter and to the entire family. Emory is a great school. Hope she has a great experience there.

You are correct. I did read the letter from the Dean of Admission incorrectly… here is what it says exactly: “Out of approximately 17,500 applications, the Admission Committee has selected an especially strong group of students for the 1,350 seats in our first-year class.”

I received this letter via email on April 20th. We had been talking about Emory since she received her notification April 1, but had not received her Financial Aid offer. We received her offer about the same day this email was sent, and since the deadline is May 1st, decided to make a quick trip to Atlanta. We had never visited the university, but after the tour and talking with a few people, we thought the opportunity was too great to pass up. I have paid her deposit, so she is officially enrolled.
