One I have currently is: is media plural or singular? In this case it is plural but is it a mistake?

Local party organizations have discovered that ovter turnout is diminished considerably whenever the media project election results in the day.

I believe media is singular. So it should read "the media projects election results.."

If you want to be grammatically correct, treat "media" as a plural noun (its singular form is "medium"). The same applies to the word "data" (its singular form is "datum"). However, their meanings have become perverted over time and are colloquially used as singular nouns.

Hmm..odd. I got that one from the blue book so I was assuming that it was correct, but the sentence reads much better as "projects". I mean, I see how it could be plural but it just doesn't sound right.

Media=Plural it was in my SAT Prep book (don't remeber which one)

YES!
media and data are both plural, and the SAT DOES test these (although rarely)

"bacteria" is another example

the bacteria are...killing him.
