is it any good to crack your backbone?

My sister had slight scholiosis and I vaguely recall her doctor telling her cracking her back was good for her. Or maybe she lied to me (she was like 10).

Otherwise, I doubt it's any good. In fact, I'm convinced that my knuckles are larger than normal because I crack them so often. D:

no, i'm quite sure it is bad. I heard that constantly cracking your knuckles increases your chance to get arthritis later on.

crack away. It does no harm. I just read it's just oxygen trapped in the joints or something similar. I have to admit this medical wisdom is from an airline magazine I read inflight, so don't blame me if your lame 30 years from now. :)

i heard that cracking your knuckles did that too but then i heard that its false.

From Yahoo, there are benefits and harms--

Okay, now we know what happens when you crack your knuckles, but are you doing serious damage? We read a bit more and discovered that only one in-depth study of the issue has been published. The study focused on 300 habitual knuckle crackers and found no evidence linking knuckle cracking and arthritis. Chronic crackers did suffer other harm, including soft tissue damage and loss of grip strength. This damage is usually minor, however, and cracking your knuckles actually has some benefits -- you'll feel looser and enjoy more mobility in your joints immediately after popping.

so cracking knuckles are like drugs? The benefits are immediate but the long-term problems can be really bad.

Well here's one thing I crack my knuckles and my fingers a lot and I now have tendenitis in my middle finger on my right hand, it's not that bad but it is def. a problem so I can tell ya that it's bad to do that stuff. Same with the wrist and it probably isn't all that good for the back either.

I crack lots of different joints in my body, and the back is by far the most satisfying. It's like an orgasm for your spine!

I can crack my left wrist infinitely... kinda cool when you show it to someone :)

i love to crack my bones, i know it sounds weird but, i feels good

i mean CRACKING YOUR BACKBONE!!!!! Not your knuckles!!! does anybody know if cracking your backbone by twisting to the sides cause serious damages?

No, its what the chiropractors do all the time as a method of medicinal application.

ok, i dont know if this is true or not. but i think it is.

two years ago a retarded science teacher at my school told me that cracking your bones releases gasses between the bones and the more you do it the more gas is released and you then get arthritis.

then this summer i went to a medical program in oxford and asked the teacher if that was true. she told me thats the dumbest thing shes ever heard in her entire life, (which embarrased the hell out of me bc i asked it) and then went on to say that it is just your bones readjusting position and the cracking is exactly that noise, the 2+ bones moving. she said it doesnt do any harm.

I can't crack my knuckles for some reason lol

ampersand has it right! Cracking the back is fun for everyone.

And yes meestasi, cracking bones is like drugs. Hence the term "crack"-ing.

I can't seem to voluntarily crack any of my bones. :-(

lol "orgasm for the spine". ive got to try this sometime!

yeah i "crack" my spine also- it does feel pretty satisfying haha

it kind of feels like tension relief

please, cracking your neck is by far the best
