My school doesn't officially rank but they release a School Profile that they send to colleges which contain UW class deciles. According to my school profile I would be the top 50% x_x (My GPA is between 3.4 - 3.7). Now this is obviously a stab in the heart for any applicant trying to apply to a top tier school.
(Just to clarify, the reason my rank is so low is because I I have taken the most rigorous classes offered. If ranking was done on a weighted scale I would easily be top 10%)

So what I'm wondering is how much do (Ivy) ads look at and use these school profiles and do they realize that ranking scales are unweighted. Ugh. Thanks.

For example, at Cornell and Brown 98% and 99% of the incoming class respectively was in the top quarter of their class (no one below the top half). And at Princeton and Harvard respectively, 97% and 95% of incoming freshman were in the 10% (no one below top quarter).

While the rigor of your courses will be taken into account, class rank is very important. I suggest you aim for some safer schools as well when applying.

I have a similar issue where my school profile goes like so… I have a 94 gpa and similar to koken911 I have taken the hardest courses offered.

95-100 90-94 80-89 70-79 64-69

basically with that break i;m left and the top of the second tier seeing as how it is a small school it basically drops me from top 10% to top 25%… how would this affect me??
