Rank Harvard's Houses

Pforzheimer has its own, fairly extensive, entry in Wikipedia.

eliot is most definitely the best, but my motto is as long as its not dunster or the quad, its cool

(that being said, though, quad rooms are really nice)
((so in the end, sorry dumpster.))

...and holler at the crimeds!

Jordan is a really nice place. One of my friends who is a senior opted to live in Jordan instead of living in PfoHo proper because the acommodations are so nice. We've used his kitchenette a gazillion times and had small parties in the common room with the huge flat screen television in Jordan South.

by the way, I contacted Harvard and they said that I might be able to have some flexibility in choosing Houses.

So, is there any objective consensus on what some of the best houses are (or conversely, any houses I should try to avoid if possible)? I literally know nothing about Harvard Houses, never having seen one, so any info people people have about these from online sources or personal experience would be great.

accepted-It's a hard question to answer, because everyone thinks his/her house is best. The best question to ask is probably "If you couldn't live in your house, where would you want to live?"

I live in Adams. My answer for "next best" is Kirkland/Lowell, but that's based more on house spirit/resources/etc, and less on which houses have the best rooms.

Well, prior to House assignment all the freshmen hope and pray to get into a river House. So if you have a choice, choose a river House.

Why is PfoHo so far away from campus?

It used to be a Radcliffe dorm (along with Currier + Cabot)

One thing you might consider is whether the amenities of the houses appeal. I can't remember which houses have what, but do remember Adams House has a pool, and Dunster House a pottery studio, grille, darkroom and squash courts. (All of which I enjoyed when I lived there.) Dunster House has a website, I'd guess the others do to. I just googled it.

The Adams pool is now a theatre.

I'm staying at [Old] Quincy House this summer. Any thoughts on Quincy?

Yep. Actually, I'm running the Kirkland house website for the next few years. (I just got the job, so I can't take credit for the current site).

Spiffystars- Quincy's a nice house in a pretty good location. Close to Baskin-Robins and Dunkin Donuts, moderately close to Pinnochio's, a little far from the quad. Not really sure what else to say.

I'm guessing Pinnochio's is a pizza place? lol. Ugh and I actually wanted to abstain from junk food this summer. I guess that's an impossibility for Quincy people.

Pinnochio's is amazing–be sure to try the tomato basil. Closest to Kirkland/Eliot/Winthrop.

I'm in "funster" for commencement... joy.

Not too far from Lowell either...
What are you doing for commencement justforgetme?

Nah, there are a number of houses that are closer to Noch's- Lowell, Adams, and (the closest!) Kirkland. Winthrop and Eliot are roughly tied with Quincy.

Make sure you get the sicilian (thick crust)- it's the best in the world. (I like pepperoni, but any toppings are good).

Working for the Crimson.

Any idea why they make all non-seniors move out of their rooms? And then why they put us in the top two floors of Dunster? It all seems logistically awful and unnecessary.

I don't know...Pfoho people had to move to Cabot too...werid.
Well, I guess not that weird...it's the Harvard Administration...they don't make sense half the time.

it's so that Dorm crew can get in and clean all the rooms for reunion week (the week right after commencement when all the alums come in for reunions and stay in the dorms)

That makes sense....
