Rank my colleges :)

Hi CC! I have a list of colleges, and I want your help in listing them from best to worst, in terms of life success, academic achievement, and maybe the likeliness of transferring to a more prestigious school. I am from California (useless fact), and I plan to major in engineering (computer probably).

Stanford
Carnegie Mellon
Johns Hopkins
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan Ann Arbor
Cornell
University of California (UC) Berkeley
UC Irvine
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
Purdue University
University of Southern California

Thank you guys :). I did, indeed, look at some websites that rank schools. But I have no idea how they are ranked and each list differs from another. I want hopefully for an accurate ranking list that you guys can come up with, maybe in a subjective voice :)

You don’t think the lists you get here will differ from each other?

Just go to the US News college site to get an overall ranking for each school. Then check out the US News engineering program rankings. If you want to assess CS departments, probably the best you can do is look at graduate program rankings (either US News or the NRC/Chronicle).

Ranking sites usually have a link to a “methodology” page. That will explain the criteria. The rankings differ from site to site because the criteria differ.
