So, I've heard that academics are, without doubt, the most important factor in Yale apps. Now, I know that it's imperative to be in the top ten percent, but is the cutoff higher? As in--I have a near perfect on the SAT, great SAT II's, and great EC's, but my rank is top 6 or 7 percent. Will that make it virtually impossible already?

Depends on your grades/course rigor. If you’re just lazy in school, that’ll screw you over. If your class is just filled with geniuses, your rank will probably not hurt you.

@ lookbeyond: Nope, definitely not a lazy thing. I’ve taken all honors, all 3 years of high school. The question is–how do admissions people tell if your school is filled with geniuses? I mean, we send people to Ivies every year, and I can definitely say that 5 out of the top 10 people are veritable geniuses. XD

@ hunt: My school does the AP program, and we have a ton of AP courses. I believe that my class has roughly 580 students, and my public school is extremely competitive.

Er, this year, for AP courses, I took AP Human Geo, AP English Lang, AP Spanish Lang, APUSH, and AP Calc BC, along with other non-AP, honors courses.

I think that my school’s 35 percent Asian? :P
