a lot of people would have different opinions about this

but I live abroad, and in terms of INTERNATIONAL prestige, I would say

Yale/Princeton (obviously)
Caltech (considered almost as prestigious as MIT these days )
Brown (ivy)
Dartmouth (ivy)
Duke (you might noy believe this, but some people abroad don’t even know about this school)
Johns Hopkins (similar goes for this school, except for its medical grad school)

ivy schools, regardless of its contents, almost always rank higher.

I’m sorry but Johns Hopkins clearly ranks lower than the ivy league in terms of prestige.

premed would be different, but just given the name, I would have to choose it last.

I don’t get why people are putting Caltech so low. In most places, it’s considered nearly equal to MIT and definitely above Brown, Dartmouth, Duke

If you want to genuinely impress someone, Caltech tends to be tops. Of course it trails behind in name recognition. Meanwhile, Duke is probably at the top in name recognition, but in terms of academic prestige it’s not in the same league as Caltech, Princeton, and Yale. I guess the best combined list I could come up with:

I live abroad too…around here most people would say:

Yale
Princeton
Brown
Dartmouth
Duke (yup, all Ivies on top…)
CalTech
Hopkins

Personally, though, it would be more like:
Yale
Princeton
Brown
Hopkins
Duke
Dartmouth
CalTech

Maybe it’s because I’m really not into all the technical, mathy, sciencey stuff, but I didn’t even realize CalTech was that highly regarded until I started surfing CC…
