Rank/Weight Dilemma

I go to a very competitive public high school. It is consistently in the Newsweek Top 100 HS Rankings, usually between ranks 70 and 50. Students do very very well, but my HS does not rank or weight AT ALL. The best students apply to Ivies and certainly are qualified but they never ever get in, unless they are athletes. I almost certain this is due to the fact that my HS doesnt rank. At a neighboring high school, which is less competitive, but still top 100 (we'll call it GHS), students consistently get into the Ivies/MIT/Stanford. GHS ranks and weights and also their requirement for a 4.0 GPA is only 89.5. I think it would behoove me to me transfer. I am a junior, and would spend my senior year there. Thoughts?

You answered your own question.

Transfer.

Bumpppppppp the BBQ

In my experience, if it’s ivy leagues, or any reach school, they care. Doesn’t matter if the high school is tough or famous, if you aren’t in the top ranks, it’s a bad thing. My friend went to a prestigious pre-med private school in Texas. Ranked just below twentieth percentile. Half of his school got national merit, himself included, but got rejected from everything. MIT, Yale, even Texas A&M. He is trying to get into Westpoint on a late-application. He’s not happy, and he realizes his slim chances.

Edit: Also had a 3.3ish GPA, because of the rigorous schedule he took. Which should have helped him, but you know, better to get an A in Algebra than a B in Calc.

If you don’t mind leaving behind all your friends…sure.
