Hey, I am ranked 3/315 in my school. My school doesn't offer any APs or honors however I'm taking the hardest classes offered at my school but the people who hold the 1st and 2nd place take mediocre classes that I've already taken and are getting high grades because of that...is this fair?

That is one reason why many schools have eliminated class rank altogether.

My school uses a 100pt system and just weights the classes. This is how my school used to and currently weights.

Level..................................Old Weight................New Weight
1 (basic classes).................... 1.0 ...........................1.0
2 (Regents Classes)................ 1.05 ........................ 1.03
3 (Honors Classes).................. 1.10 ........................ 1.07
4 (AP Classes)........................ 1.15 ........................ 1.11

This system seems to work pretty well in rewarding those who take the most difficult classes. The only think that stinks is that this year with the new weighting system, my grades have actually gone up, but it looks like they have dropped!

I think it is kind of unfair that the top ranked kids at your school are cruising along in easy classes and being rewarded.

At my school, as far as being valedictorian goes, there is a minimal number of honors classes that you have to have taken. For rank though, it's not really affected.

Complain to el guidance counselor supremo.

the guidance couselor says that it's not the students fault for not taking the advanced classes because she says that the classes they are taking are mandatory for them to take. My school is brand new, so we don't have any honors or APs. I'm ahead because I took 3 high schools classes when I was in junior high, so she says there is nothing that she can do about it.

There is a similar problem at my school. The top three people in our class deserve to be there but then the rest of the top ten percent are not worthy of their rank. I take a full load of AP classes while many people with higher ranks hasnt taken any AP courses and we actually have 15 available.

At my school, the ranks are weighted by credits. so people taking options don't get as much weighting on their ranks.
