What's it like to be ranked last in a class? How does the GC break that news to you? How do you accept that news?

I’m sure if a person’s ranked last, they’re also the type that won’t care.

I don’t really think there’s much overlap between people who are ranked last in a class and people who would need that information because they plan on attending college.

Assuming we’re talking about public schools, that is.

I think that some under-achieving people might make it seem as if they don’t care, but deep down, it’s gotta be a huge detriment to one’s ego to be last in anything.

i was ranked in the bottom 10% of my class :p.

yeah, while the people who are last don’t care about doing well in school, hearing that they were last would probably make them feel something.

i don’t think that something would be feeling a big blow to their ego though.

I always figured if you were actually last, you wouldn’t care. At my high school, you would have to get literally straight F’s to do that. I know a girl who had a 0.9 who was still ahead of 30 people. Although, she didn’t graduate.

If you’re last, chances are either: A). You won’t graduate with this class anyway B). You have already dropped out of school and yet to inform anyone or C). You don’t care. Or some combination of the above.

What if you’re ranked last at Harvard or something?

If you’re ranked last at Harvard you probably knew it wasn’t the right fit for you anyway.

I was a P.E. Leader at my high school last year and I can tell some people do not give one about their rank. AT all. I had this kid who always showed up to class, but never dressed. He was also failing every other he was taking. He had good diction and charisma and was sometimes arrogant, but he just didn’t care about his rank. He would fall asleep during tests. So, I doubt they care.

Why would a GC break that news anyways?

This actually seemed like a good thread. /: I would quit life if that happened to me.

At my school, you have to test to get in, and every single person in each graduating class has applied to a college/university. For us, even the bottom ranking kid (2.9) cares. It’s so emotional and so many people tie for #1 that the school has talked about stopping class rank.

Class rankings cause a lot of emotions at your school? Haha, at our school, 95% of the students don’t even know nor care about their class rank. =p

I agree with Rob, most people don’t care about class rank.
To be last at my school, you need a 0.0, then you probably would tie for last.

I used to know who was last in our class. He thought it was funny.

^The saddest person is a clown.

“Class rankings cause a lot of emotions at your school?”

Yes- I know it’s bizarre! I’m not one to care that much, but at an IB World School, kids get a little worked up, especially around finals before senior year.

I knew someone freshman year who had .4 GPA. He didn’t care. At my school, you need a 2.0 to graduate. I really don’t think those kids care. Plus, they only announce the top 10. The rest don’t get told their rank unless they ask.

lol IceQube being last in class rank doesn’t mean you’re sad … or a clown.

you’ve wrote some pretty sad threads yourself if i recall, despite being successful academically.
