Ranking a few BA/MD programs

I am interested in the following BA/MD programs, and wondered if anyone could please rank them in order of selectivity (least to hardest to enter in respect to the % of admitted students)?
1. Albany medical college
2. Boston University
3. USC and Keck school of medecine
4. Michigan State University
5. Brooklyn college
6. Temple University
7. University of Cincinnati
8. Howard 6 year program
9. Virginia Commonwealth University

(You can use the numbers to rank)
Any comments on the individual difficulty for these programs are welcome (emphasis on test scores...)
Thanks!!

I'll tell you that from that list, the ones I know that are really hard to get into are USC and Boston. Those are amazingly hard to get into. Not too sure about the others. Albany isn't as hard as the other two, and neither is Brooklyn. Don't know about MSU but I assume its directed towards Michigan residents, and no idea about VCU, Temple, Howard, or U Cincinnati.

if yer not from michigan don't apply to msu. 12 spots, only 2 go to out of staters

Thanks.
Actually, my aim was to find the easiest to get into, so for sure, I won't take BU or MSU

Does anybody know if the Brooklyn College program is for NY residents only?

its only for ny residents

is BU actually worth it? because the college and med school are not very good. I am considering BU, but not sure if it will be worth it.

BU's medical school is better than most of the ones on the list.

what about in comparsion to USC or Case?

BU is good, except my neighbor son who graduated from 7 year BA-MD at BU, kind of regret doing the accelerated route. He goes into service for the next 7 years to pay for the tuition.

From what I read and understand, BU is a pretty good program. But is it worth giving up a ivy education? Maybe not as high as Princeton or Harvard, but like Columbia?

sorry, I am just asking because with my school, we can only apply for 8 privates, so I want to make sure I pick my schools well. :)

Whether or not it's worth it is a personal matter, but I will tell you that kids regularly turn down top schools, including the Ivy League, for BU's program. In my year, we've collectively turned down Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Duke, UPenn, Brown, among others (we never took an official tally or anything, lol, so I don't know all the schools we turned down).

haha i see i see
I am really just trying to judge the worth of BU's program. I looked at their brochures and information and it does seem very worthwhile.
I was a little worried mainly becuase BU is not well known for being a great undergrad or med school.

does anyone have feedbacks on programs in USC, Case, URochester??

kpphy88, do BU kids sit around taking tallys of all the Ivy schools they turned down or something? There was another BU kid on the Cornell forum who also had a long list of the schools BU kids supposedly turned down. Was there an official consensus going around the school?

nope; it just came up in conversation before.

kpphy88, since you are currently in the program, I guess you could answer this question better than anyone else. What is the retention rate for the program? Do a lot of kids transfer out/test into other medical schools? and more importantly it is common that kids in the program do not make it through the program--on to med school?

I think this component is really important becuase UCLA has a med program, which sounds really great. BUT it admitts 200ish and only 20 can actually graduate with a UCLA M.D. degree.

i was working at BU.

It is amazing to see so many world class medical facilities in town. I was having lunch close to Harvard Medical school one day, and all these residents, doctors etc. I will rate BU graduate program and Boston teaching hospitals affiliated with Harvard are #1.

If I have a choice, I will go to U of Miami undergraduate and then BU medical school. It's too late for me -(

westcoastlove,

The retention rate is 90% (my dad asked the same question at the open house).

Kids in the program generally don't transfer out to other medical schools.

And no, it is not common that kids in the program do not make it through the program. One of the things I love most about BU's program is that it is in no way a "weed-out" program as some are reputed to be. It's a small program, the oldest of its kind in the nation, and BU takes a lot of pride in it, as do the professors who have been a part of it. And so BU really does whatever they can to ensure that each student in the program makes it through; for example, if you don't make the gpa cut, you're not kicked out, but given help. Several of my friends didn't make the cut 1st semester and the director of our program, when he met with all of them individually, was nothing but supportive, asking them if things were okay with adjusting to college and if there was any way he and BU could help. Each incoming class for the program has a target size of 20-25; since it's so small, BU has no reason to weed anyone out and it's not in their interest to, either, since those accepted to the program have much stronger academic records than the average BU student.

I would really encourage you to apply; I'm so happy here at BU in the program and I'm not uber-stressed as I suspect I would be if I were premed at a top undergrad.

haha that's great kpphy88!!
I will most likely apply then :)
Sorry about the loads of questions!! I just had to make sure I pick right because my school will only allow us to apply for 8 private schools :)

hi im apply from phillips academy in andover. the gpa's here are somewhat humbling and its near impossible to present the ideal gpa for applying to these schools. my school does not disclose class ranks to colleges and i was wondering where you all stood in your respective classes/ if the class rank matters as much?
