ranking...important?

So I started high school in arkansas and I moved to arizona the summer before 10th grade. my school in ark offered regular, pre-ap, and ap classes and freshmen weren't allowed to take ap, so I took 5 pre-ap (out of 8 classes), the others were req. such as health, pe,... The problem is that my new school offers regular, honors, and ap, so no pre-ap, and they rank both honors and ap. The curriculum was the same (the registrar said so herself after reading the course descriptions), but they won't rank pre-ap since it's not called "honors". Last year I was one of only two sophomores taking ap classes and this year I'm taking 4 APs and 3 honors and I have a 4.0, but my rank is still really low (47/653) and I doubt it'll go much higher (definitely not top 10). Is rank really that important? Does it make much difference, esp when applying to HYPSM? Should I fight for it...but I don't think they're going to change the "rules"...not by the time I graduate, at least.
Thanks in advance!

I'm Confused...does your new school rank or not?

If you want to fight for it, you can, but you're clearly in the top ten PERCENT, which is the main thing a college is going to look for, since you're obviously not going to be val/sal, so I'd say you're fine. If you're really worried about it, you could always mention it in a personal statement when you apply, but I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I'm assuming the school ranks, it's just that the credits corinao got at her old school weren't transferred over. In a word, yes, the rank is important. But if your counselor writes a letter explaining the situation, some of the damage will be cancelled out.

Plus, you're only starting your Junior year. There's a whole year ahead for the others to drop out like flies (if you're a charitable sort :) )

Yeah. I'm 47/653, but both honors and AP classes are weighed, unlike my old school, where only AP classes were...and no honors classes were offered (only pre-AP, but same curriculum)

Exactly, tkm...but I don't think they'll drop out like flies, since everybody's really competitive. Top 10% is ok, but aren't like half the people who go to Harvard valedictorians?

I was kidding about dropping out like flies. I have a weird sense of humor that likes to make fun of sadistic thoughts....yeah.

lol, it helps me visualize the college admissions process, though...so should I keep on fighting? It'll mean talking to superintendent and I know they've never awarded credit for pre-ap....oh well...I can always cure cancer. That's a hook, right?
