Ranking of graduate programs

Does anyone know where I can find the national ranking of PhD programs by discipline? I tried googling it but my search was unsatisfying.
Thank you.

This site should give you a general idea of the rankings of various programs: http://www.phds.org/rankings

But please note that rankings are not that objective and don't mean that much. You need to research and look into the emphasis of these programs and whether there are any professions doing research that you may be interested in.

i know in my field, rankings mean absolutely nothing because you dont apply to the program, you apply to work with a specific professor.

phds.org provides just a personal ranking based on your own preferences. If you want general rankings, visit http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/rankindex_brief.php. US News is well-known for their school rankings.

Thanks everyone for your responses; however, the first site is subjective and US news only provides the names of the first 2 programs... I'd like to see the whole list beyond those ranked 1 & 2. Anyone knows how?

Well, some people on this site have access to the full US News rankings, so if you'd like rankings for a specific field, you can ask.

There are also the NRC rankings, which you can find via google. They are a little older (~1996?) and due for an update soon.

What are you interested in? I can give a general idea on a few fields...

I can give you the full set of rankings for a particular field.

I know this is neurotoxin's thread, but can I ask for the rankings of neuroscience PhD programs? Thank you Addwit!!!

Is there a ranking for Romance Language programs?

Also, what about just Italian programs?

Also, is there such a ranking for European Studies or something to that affect?

this page is from the UCB website. it's obviously an "advertisement" for themselves, but it claims to list the top-10 grad programs in all 36 areas that were ranked by the national research council in 1995. the rankings seem pretty legit.
