which are the best UC's? also, in the ranking of the worlds best universities, UCSD comes in at number 13, and is ranked better than UCLA, how can one explain that, is it so?

General Rankings look like:

Cal and UCLA

UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCSD

UCSC, UCR

UCM (Untested so not sure where it'll land...)

Depending on the major though some schools can move up and down this list. Also it seems in recent years UCSD is trying (and not doing too shabby a job at it) to move into the Cal/UCLA arena.

yeah depends on the majors.

UCD is the most underated one IMO. Not many wanna go there since it's in Norcali.

UCI does not appeal to me based on it's reputation.

Anyhow this is my biased rankings based on overall life style and academic reputation

UCLA-westwood rules, i am SM/LA raised person

UCSD-love the city and wheather

UCSB- party man, best chances to get laid often i hear.

UCR- good friends there who enjoy a quiet life style.

LOL thinking about it, those are the most biased rankings ever.

I second Allena's rankings. Exactly. I'm pretty sure Merced will be Tier 3. I don't have a very good feeling about it.

i have a friend at UCD, and I made a bet with him. He is a musclar 6'2 asian male, and i bet with him:

he is to pay me 10 bucks if i get into stanford via transfer
I am to pay him 10 bucks if he gets laid in the whole freshman year.

so far he didn't get laid in UCD, and i believe only a handful got laid in his coed.

that;s for UCD.... first hand experience (i went there. girls didn't go wild after 12 pm, they just played monopoly...)

damn, he is really honest. :)

But monopoly is fun too. :;

he actually admited that i "have more chance of winning the bet"

stanford takes 5% ppl via transfer, and probably less than 1 percent from CC.

he just admitted that the chance of him getting laid in a COED, (yes, guys and girls live together) is less than 1 percent...

damn ur friend needs help w/ his game, and i don't mean monopoly :)

Actually I kinda like Monopoly :)

i am going to UCD again this friday, just to check stuff out. yeah my friend needs help, heh.

i heard girlsa re having trouble finding bf too.

indie_boy's Ranking (based on academics and social life)

1)
UCB -- It's academics makes up for it's lag in social life.
Tie
UCLA -- Offers best overall value.
2)
UCSD -- Bio program is a killer. Ranks number 2 in the nation. Other engineering departments are also good. Social life scene sucks big time.
3)
UCSB -- Averege academically. Parties make life fun. Even more fun for those non-party-studyhollics who benefit from the bad course curves that the party-goers produce.
4)
UCI -- Decent for majors like engineering, bio etc. Social life I heard is not that bad.
UCD -- Good only for science majors. Social scene similar to that of UCI.
5)
UCR, UCSC -- Great professors and curriculum but a lot of students who get accepted screw it up...but still both these UCz offer a lot for those who want to utilize it.

In general, I would say...all UCz rock :)

student4u, you are looking @ engineering rankings...not overall
Overall UCLA ranks much higher than UCSD.
In engineering, as I said above, UCSD's bioengineering pushes it's rank to the top. CS/CE/EE also rocks @ UCSD.

yea that world rankin system is a bunch of bull in my opinion cuz it ranked in factoring in NOT JUST academics, but also stress level, how well the students did in school, cost, location, and all that other stuff. IF your only concern is academics, juss follow the rankings on US News. Of course Cal (UCB) is an overall brainiac school great in almost everything they do, its just they lack a good social life. My opinion is UCLA is the most balanced. People party hard and study hard. Great location, westwood rocks and is a 20 min drive from alot of things. Next is UCSD which is a great school. Awesome Medical program but my only problem with SD is its TOO chill. The campus is very calm like you will fall asleep. But the location is very nice, La Jolla is a place to retire in but not to party in thats for sure tho. UCD is good for bio/med stuff but its too out in the boonies for my taste. Irvine is a good school and parties are awesome there. If you guys are into HipHop, their CADC squad is one of the best. SB is a straight beach, drinkin, party on the beach school so if thats ur thing go for it. and Rside is nice just on the end of the UC listings. Either way...pick your poison folks. Hope to see u there next year =D

indie boy, ur rankings are close to mine except u have CAl on top.

I am not a big fan of that schools, a lot of my friends went there and are telling me they are forced to study 24-7, have to deal w/ annoying geeks who do stupid stuff like steal their books so they will do bad.

But LA, SD, SB is what i have as well.
