Ranking Stanford, MIT, and similar schools

Hello, I read that Stanford covered 100% of tuition for families under 125k income and MIT did the same for families under 75k income. How is it worth the time for low income students to apply to these schools via Questbridge if they are already guaranteed a tuition free education if they are admitted?

Right, I was thinking the same thing.

The major benefit is probably having twenty four chances at top tier universities ((NCM + RD) x 12 schools)

Schools that aren’t Ivies and don’t have similar scholarship policies would still require contribution, and not everyone gets into Ivies (lol)

In addition, Questbridge finalists / those who get in RD have communities at the schools they end up getting into, which presumably means they get more peer support.

I think the best part of the application is in the fact that it’s a lot of work, because officers will get to know you a bit better than other students who only have 650 words and one additional info section. I’m not sure how much this helps though, considering the low rate of people accepted through QB.

That said, I was also taken aback at the number of short answers and the extra essay. I was considering not doing Questbridge because I had an essay topic I was really excited about (but didn’t fit the QB prompts at all), but the advantages through QB are worth it for me personally.
