this is becoming more of thread for Indian students :D

Actually, America is more widely known across the world for some of the most epic jerks :]
And many people in America itself can’t name all of the Ivy league members, so there.

I seriously feel like puking, somebody give me a US manufactured paper-bag. lol

“And many people in America itself can’t name all of the Ivy league members, so there.”

So true.

I was really hoping to be surprised that I wouldn’t find a bunch of people (not being racist, but i realise you’re all from India) jumping on me and defending India and IIT within an hour of my post, guess I was wrong. But hey, each to their own. Yes I realise India’s immense population but IIT is not as well known internationally than HYP and if you want to argue that fine. That says nothing about the ranking and presenting a bunch of stats doesn’t change the ‘prestige’ factor of it.

I don’t care that you can’t accept the fact that America is what I just said and what other people has said. There are many stereotypes of America and our perception often comes from the fabricated images that we see on Tv but this has got nothing to do with that. You can’t not accept that they DO have the best colleges in the world and they DO produce nobel prized graduates more than any other. It’s got nothing to do with what you think of American people in general and but if you want to go in with a ‘America is a bunch of epic jerks’ mentality then good luck.

Again, i don’t know how this thread turned into an IIT debate.

Ruby_x3…you made a mistake posting in the international forum…this is full of some crazy indians who will qoute half truths and lies to any extent to prove that their sole institution the IITs actually matter…truth is that like you no one outside India knows about them…and that won’t change no matter what we say…
Gary7…Times of India is the worst newspaper in circulation today, which just shows how gullible some Indians are…once again I will show facts…
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2081441.cms
2370 out of 2400 in SAT 2 highest in the world !!! If you follow their rankings, you need some help…

Ruby_x3:Your post reminded me of another post that I had read sometime back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1062295606-post36.html
and there was a reponse to that post too - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1062295669-post38.html

Since we don’t seem to be debating the IITs anymore this will be my last post in this thread…
Tuna… I feel sorry for you that even though you like the IITs so much you didn’t get in…but then as I told you there are only so many actual candidates…maybe if I could have given my rank to you…
And Tuna…‘You REALLY deserve to be boxed in the ears or slapped really hard’…the question isn’t really who deserves what…it’s about what you can really do…you seem really adept at making threats from behind a computer…probably wouldn’t feel that way if we were standing face to face…I’m 6 feet 2 and weigh 78 kgs…and I do power lifting at the gym everyday…yeah, I wanted my college to have gym facilities…until we meet…ciao.

You seriously need to read the article again. These were the points you missed:
- They weren’t referring to SAT subject tests but instead they were talking about SAT Reasoning Test (in which, mind you, they never mentioned how much he scored)
2.And the newspaper never stated his scores are highest in the world, but instead it says he’s score was possibly the highest from Kolkata that year.

I guess you read the article saw the word “highest” and the scores and jumped off your seat thinking “Great!I’ve found a way to actually make something Indian look bad.” But unfortunately, for you, that isn’t the case.

P.S. I assume you are already in touch with an American lawyer discussing how you can, first, become a GC holder and then an American citizen.

And once again lightbearer you have no facts.

Sorry CCprofile but they just mentioned SAT and then went on to give his SAT 2 scores…I don’t see how you seem to know that they were referring to the SAT Reasoning Test since they don’t mention it even once…
And I’m willing to bet that at least a dozen people scored way more in the SAT 2 in his year…and it’s the newspaper’s job to ascertain that before publishing(didn’t they look at the percentile)…
As for making an Indian look bad…you may interpret it any way you want…but go to any well educated person in Kolkata and they will quickly point out that TOI is a sleazy misreporting newspaper…these are the words of a distinguished gentleman at a seminar in ST.Xavier’s College…and which I happen to agree with…you only have to look at Calcutta Times to understand it…

^Actually the newspaper stated “SAT- the test required to be taken for college admission in US” or something along these lines. And by the definition SAT Reasoning is more likely to be the test they were referring to.

Oh no…TOI has a habit of misreporting…they probably don’t even know that there are two SATs… but you have to say that if they meant the SAT 1, they would have mentioned it’s scores instead of putting the SAT 2 scores as the headline…come on…you seriously can’t argue that…

And btw you are entitled to your opinions and can express them freely and we’re entitled to disagree with you but please don’t make any derogatory remarks about people who don’t see the world the way you do. And when one does make remarks like you did in your first post in this thread then he/she is bound to be heavily criticized and a trail of angry posts are bound to follow.

Lightbearer, please do us a favor and go back to power-lifting.

First lol at that.

Now, I don’t think I even need to respond after the sentence"they probably don’t even know that there are two SATs"

@Ruby: First thing, we (or at least I) am NOT claiming that the IITs are more prestigious than Harvard, Yale, Princeton- and I’d say even MIT! But what we ARE saying is that where the OP’s put them- it’s appropriate. They certainly are quite prestigious. Though you might never have heard of them (and I can show you so many non-US students who haven’t the slightest idea what Princeton is), employers in the engineering fields most certainly have- and people here in Asia have (I’ve had so many Singaporeans ask me in disbelief whether the IITs where it’s apparently “crazily hard to get into” are actually that crazily hard to get into!!) So yeah. :)

@Light-Chatter-Bearer: Dude- you must be REALLY puny if you weigh less than 80 kilos at 6 ft. 2 inches! Haha! Powerlifting? Hahaha! And I’m supposed to be worried about that? DUDE! YOU SO OBVIOUSLY HAVEN’T SEEN WHAT I LOOK LIKE! LOL! And besides- if you were so sure about your oh-lookey-I’m-tall-dark-and-handsome, you wouldn’t act GHAYY and not put your own pic on your facebook!

Oh- and about me not getting into the IITs, I wasn’t even in the country during the JEE- so yeah. As I said, the IITs are great but everyone has their own priorities. I wanted a place that let’s me try stuff hands-on, that let’s me do undergrad research and where I can meet different sorts of people! So, the IITs aren’t for me, however crazily good they may be! And another point, I didn’t even do my class 12th from India, so the IITs are definitely out for me! So now you can go jerk off with your rank.

And for the boxed in the ears- dude, I didn’t claim that I’d do it, all I say is that your mum should have slapped you like 15 years ago- you probably would have been a nicer person then.

Haha- that’s all I’ll say for now- and now I shall go back to your "I’m a powerlifter, and I’m so tall (maybe that’s why you pause and think for so long… it probably takes ages for whatever you’re thinking to get from your head to your fingers…).

And dude, someone a loser as big (literally too) as you could probably lift nothing more than his own puny d***! :D

Powerlifter? 6 ft. 2? (I’m so scared… literally trembling, kid!)

Umm… and just to mention that I won’t be posting here after this. I’m glad most people here disapprove of Chatterbox Lightweight Bear’s crapping about other people (SK), but I guess it’s not fair to the Thread-Starter, or to anyone else that we turn this into a personal battle frontier. So yup. Last post on this thread! (:

Peace. Everybody.

“And many people in America itself can’t name all of the Ivy league members, so there.”

And the fact that you guys all can name all 8 of the ivy league schools make them more prestigious than ever :D

seriously, i’m not biased or in love with us schools or whatever, but it’s just a fact that US schools are great and especially in terms of prestige, they are the most prestigious in the world.
and another fact is that most of the prestigious companies in the world are much interested in hiring someone who is from ivy league schools (or top US schools in general) also makes US schools much much more prestigious… Goldman Sachs is an example, it only hire ivyluague graduates for top positions

That’s not prestige coming out, that’s months of looking up websites and researching. Maybe you should go through some of the previous posts. I’d hate to burst your bubble, it’d be better if you do the honor yourself
Like 100%Tuna, I’m off too.
Peace.
