Colonial Athletic Association:
William and Mary
Delaware
JMU
Drexel
Northeastern
Towson
GA State
Hofstra
VCU (mom's alma mater)
George Mason
ODU (dad's alma mater)
UNC-Wilmington

Atlantic Sun Conference:
I don't know that much about it, so I won't rank, but Belmont is #1 on my list.

PS- Savannah State is also D1, but they are independent of a conference.

A) SEC, Kentucky? Seriously? It's Vanderbilt, then everyone else.

B) Big Ten
1. Northwestern
2. Michigan
3. Wisconsin
4. Illinois
5. Penn State
6. Michigan State
7. Minnesota
8. Indiana
9. Purdue
10. Ohio State
11. Iowa

ACC (UNC IS NOT #6! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?)
1. Duke
2. Virginia (tie)
2. UNC (tie)
4. Wake Forest
5. Boston College
6. Georgia Tech
7. Miami
8. Florida State
9. Maryland
10. NC State
11. Clemson
12. Virginia Tech

Big 12 (besides Texas) and SEC (besides Vandebilt) are total jokes academically.

Big East is too complicated due to the differences between basketball and football. Anyway, of course Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Villanova are solid.

Where did you get these numbers? I got average scores from the US News site and came up with the following. I used ACT since 9 of the 12 use that test predominately. To transfer SAT to ACT, I used the chart on the collegeboard.com site.

I realize test scores do not necessarily mean one school is better than another. It is much more complicated than just that. However, I've seen Arkansas take some shots on here and wanted to defend it. Arkansas is a solid state university. Not spectacular or anything, just solid. It is certainly not some country bumpkin school as some on here seem to believe.

I thought Florida's scores were higher, but the US News ranking book gives SAT of 1250 for the average.

PAC-10
Stanford
Cal
UCLA
USC
Washington
(huge drop-off--really bottom of the barrel schools after UW)
Arizona
Oregon
Washington State
Arizona State

For all of you that write off normal state schools as worthless or "bottom of the barrel" schools, I'll paste what I wrote in the other thread:

Many "second tier" state universities (top 130 or so) and some of the higher third tier state schools are not discussed on this forum at all. If you're motivated, you can get just as good an education at a school like this as you can at a "top" college. The difference is, of course, that the average student at one of these lower tier schools is less impressive than a student at a "prestigious" college, but that's simply a measure of selectivity, it has no relation to the quality of the education at the school (the "value added" by the college)

It's true that your education may be improved in a small way by being around students with higher SAT scores and high school GPAs, but the effect of this is minimal and only a tiny component of how good a school educates it's students.

I'm not saying that ___ State will have professors that are as good as Harvard profs, but if you're studying any of the more common majors (political science, psych, engineering. etc) there really isn't anything you can learn at Harvard that the ___ State professors couldn't teach you.

Overall Academic Quality Ranking imho:
Top
1. Michigan/Northwestern
2. Illinois/Wisconsin
3. Ohio State/Penn State
4. Michigan State/Minnesota
5. Indiana/Iowa/Purdue
*Note: Wisconsin is actually Tier 1.5
*Note: Purdue is actually Tier 4.5
Prediction: MSU & OSU moving up a tier in the next decade! :)

Chronic--How could you be so wrong? It's all about Kentucky ... and Jodie Meeks, who scored 54 points last night against Tennessee. Hmmmm. I believe KY beat Vanderbilt last week, as well. :)

Ummmm. And your point is? "Conferences" are generally referred to in terms of sports--not academics. I've never heard anyone yet ask: "You're an organic chemistry major? What conference are you in?"

I live in Big Ten Country so here:
1. Northwestern
2. Michigan
3. UW-Madison
4. Illinois (Urbana-Champaign)
5. Purdue
6.Minnesota
7. Penn State
8. Ohio St.
9. Michigan State
10. Indiana
11. Iowa

hindoo: alright, jodie meeks is sick, but still. And Tennessee ain't nuthin but some pussy-eatin prankstaz. Especially Wayne Chism. They need to get Chris Lofton some more eligibility.

looking back on all of this, I think that the ACC is the best academically out of all the major athletic conferences (not including ivies). Anyone agree/disagree with me?

Unfortunately, living in an area does not necessarily mean you know what you're talking about. Purdue and Minnesota above Penn State and Ohio State? Not so much.

Big 12
1. Baylor
2. Kansas
3. Kansas State
4. Texas A&M
5. Oklahoma

Pierre, I realize that your rankings have been ripped to shreds and your methodology is clearly flawed. However, this list is so bad that I think it really warrants another giggle.

BTW, I also find it interesting that there are only 9 schools in the Big 12. That is neither here nor there though.
