Well UCSB seems to be my favorite school and I started looking at the dorms. I wouldn’t stay in Manzanita and San Rafael bc they aren’t really for freshmen, and I wouldn’t stay in FT bc it is too far from the main campus area.

So could you rank the dorms by how nice they are. I’m looking at them like this.

well there are about 250 spaces for freshman on mazanita village. It is the most popular dorm by far, since it is the newest dorm. Well if you really want to exclude mazanita and only want to rank these dorm
1. Anacapa
2. Santa Cruz
3. San Nicolas
4. Santa Rosa
5. San Miguel

Honestly, for the most part Anacapa, Santa Cruz, and Santa Rosa are all going to be pretty much the same... SC and Anacapa I think have nicer carpeting or whatever, but those dorms are the same.

San Miguel and San Nicolas are the twins to each other, and they are each 8 story buildings all set up the same way. It doesn't REALLY matter where you live next year, especially if you plan on living in one of those 5 dorms as opposed to an off-campus dorm...

San Miguel and San Nicholas are a little different. San Nic is connected at the corner, while San Miguel is two seperate buildings. In San Mig, two adjacent floors are considered a "hall", while San Nic has the hall all on one floor.

yes you can request a change, but only after 2 weeks. This is to allow time for students to work out any problems with the dorms or their roommate.

I wonder the same thing. I think I will deliver mine this weekend. I am pretty sure it must be first come first serve. I don't know how else they would do it. Does anyone know when we will know what dorm we got by?

It is mainly based on a computer lottery system to determine the order. If space permits, they will put you in your first choice, if not then they will go down your list.

i'm a transfer, will be 3rd year junior standing but it took me 3 years to transfer and wondering if i should get an apartment or off campus housing or dorm in the transfer hall, which i heard is easier to make friends and such.

I'm pretty set of Manzanita Village for my first year, but San Clemente is pretty tempting because of the 4 room apartments. Let me know what you end of deciding dragondawg

yeah i was thinking manzanita village for my first year too since its on campus and it will hopefully be a better social atmosphere. Would have to see sam clem in person, its been a while since i've been to sb but the apartment in iv was ok guess. Trying to weigh the pros and cons of dorming vs an apartment. I'm thinking about taking summer as well, i think it said that you can do off campus housing or stay at san miguel as that is the only residence hall on campus that they are offering?
