Anyone care to provide a ranking of the Ivies in your opinion...I had an argument with my dad over which Ivy is considered the "worst."

I think this is the general perception:

Prestige:
Harvard

Columbia
Penn/Dartmouth/Brown/Cornell

One thing that I've noticed is that you guys are quick to place Cornell at the bottom.

I think people judge Cornell too much on its higher acceptence rate. The main reason for Cornell's higher acceptence rate than the other ivies is that they simply have more room to admit more people who are qualified.

Case in point: There are 14,000 Undergrads at Cornell, While Harvard has less than half of that at 6,700.

This year, Cornell had 33,000 applications and Harvard had 27,000. Last year, Cornell admitted 6500 students... So the acceptence rate this year would aprox be 20%. Now, if Cornell had the same number of spaces as say...Harvard, then, well, we would be dropping into the single digits (aprox 9%).

I wouldn't put Cornell at the bottom just because it may seem less selective. And, in fact, according to Washington Monthly, Cornell is actually number one of ivies in terms of "contributions to research, community service, and social mobility."

So...yeah!

"Worst" for what? There's no denying that Cornell is easier to get into than the other seven, but it has some unique academic programs in a very special setting in one of America's great college towns.

cornell is the least selective, but it is often the most rigorous of all the ivies from what ive heard (my friends at harvard havent found it to be too rigorous, not to mention the grade inflation that goes on there)

Princeton/Harvard/Yale

Penn/Columbia/Dartmouth

Brown/Cornell

for undergrads

yale princeton
brown columbia dartmouth
harvard
penn
cornell

Proponents of Cornell seem to respond to criticism of their school by grouping all criticism into objection to high admission rate. That's not the only reason that Cornell is put towards the bottom of the Ivies. Only cynics will assert that it's not a good school, but most of its strengths lie in the sciences. It's a relatively one-dimensional place with a relatively less-qualified student body. Top 15-20 university? Sure. Still not above #8 ivy.

Yale (financial aid, undergrad focus, and fanatical devotion that students/recent alumni have towards the place put it on top)
Harvard
Princeton
UPenn (including Wharton, if not, it's just above Cornell)
Columbia
Dartmouth
Brown
Cornell

All amazing schools.

Columbia and Yale for undergrads? Are you kidding me? Do you go to Yale?

in my "unbiased" (:p) opinion...

Dartmouth

Penn

Columbia

Brown

Cornell

Yale

Harvard

Princeton

(a bit different form others' lists, i guess)

Undergrad:

Princeton

Harvard

Yale

Columbia

Penn

Dartmouth

Cornell

Brown

how would you guys rank the ivies for premed?

for undergrads only:

Princeton/Yale

Brown/Dartmouth/Cornell

Columbia/Harvard/UPenn

as for grads, it'd be a different ranking
