Just for the hell of it, I'm posting this. It will probably cause some debate, and Cal will somehow be brought into it, and possibly Michigan, UNC and Georgetown.

Anyway,

How would you rank the Ivies? (prestige, rankings, whatever) I don't care about the HYP or whatever. Just your personal gut feeling is what I'm looking for.

For instance,

Personally,

I would probably say:

Harvard

Yale

Princeton
(yeah, I know, there is no real argument up top)

Cornell

Columbia

Brown

Penn

Dartmouth (I don't think anyone outside of academia knows Dartmouth is even an Ivy)

It's really tough to rank any of the non-Harvards, Yales, and Princetons ahead of Cornell because of Cornell's top programs.

I just don't think a school with some of the country's best programs could be the "worst" in a category, even if it is the Ivy league. Most people will probably put Cornell at the bottom of the list.

Don't forget, the Big Red made it to the Sweet 16. That's a bigger feat than any of the other schools in the past few years (haha).

I just want to know. And, well, if you look at the previous posts, none of them actually debate this actual topic. It ventures off into saying “Oh, Cal is the best because A, B, and C”, or “Stanford is better because it’s higher ranked”.

Okay, I’ll actually contribute a meaningful observation.

You rank Dartmouth too low, because it has always been, and continues to be, a bastion of WASP privilege, a breeding and rearing ground for prep school brats and kids from wealthy families. It’s a feeder school to Wall Street, and has respectable Business and Medical schools.

Columbia

Penn

Cornell (reputable grad programs–though aren’t as well-respected as those of C+P–superior international rep, but state school-like UG, still stands above Dartmouth and Brown because it fulfills its purpose as a national research university)

Dartmouth

Brown
