Ranking Your High Schools

How do you guys rank ur high schools? Everytime I see a chance thread I see "my school is number w/e in the state or number w/e in the country. I also see claim of them being very rigorous or prestigious and what not.

Where are you guys getting these rankings from? A legitimate source or just what ur school officials/parents have fed you?

I think there’s a collection of 15 or so high schools in Michigan which can all safely be called the top high schools in Michigan. Beyond this there are some famous private and charter schools which are ranked somewhere and collectively make up the best high schools in the US.

Agree. At one time UofM used to post it’s feeder schools. Don’t know if they do that anymore. But I think primarily it is the schools that tell kids their school is ‘the best’. Our kids’ public in Michigan is definitely at the top, but sometimes the kids are told it’s #2, or “the best” or “one of the best”…if you back it up with statistics it’s not #2, it’s darn good but not #2 or “the best”…but that’s what the kids hear. I’m sure this goes on in many good high schools across the country.

I never heard we were the best haha.

There was some admittance data that was available through a michigan daily article… gave amount of people accepted from a given high school and the amount of people enrolling… was like class of 2014 through 4 years or so back.

Someone dig up a link.

[Feeding the ‘U’: Why 16 percent of the student body comes from the same 20 high schools - The Michigan Daily](Feeding the 'U': Why 16 percent of the student body comes from the same 20 high schools)

@Vlad-What would you say are the top 15 or so schools in MI?

Hint, they aren’t all in the Detroit metropolitan area.

I got a red card?

For anything I could say someone could reply with “Well, what about ____” so I won’t say specific schools. Many should be obvious. There are several in Oakland county, a few in Washtenaw, a couple in Kent, and a few in the rest of the state. Give or take.

So the measure of a top school in MI is how many get into UMich from that school? Gee, I wonder who made that call…

There are parallels but they are two separate things.

Its just another way to fuel all the false egos of in state kids, and a lot of high schoolers in general

Michigan’s top public feeder is Ann Arbor Huron. For privates, I think Greenhills, Cranbrook Kingswood, and International Academy are up there.
