I was just wondering how much emphasis upenn puts on ranking. I have a 3.7gpa, but Im only in the top 15%. Does upenn look at the weighted or unweighted avg? And also does upenn recalculate your gpa? Do I stand a chance of getting in if I dont break into the top 10%?
Thanks

It's really difficult to say without knowing a lot more about your background, extracurriculars, reading your essays, recommendations, etc.; selection criteria are very much based on "whole person" evaluations. If you're really concerned, you can always have a chat with your admissions director via telephone.

ranking really depends on your location and competitveness of your school. for example a 10/400 in NY is probably about same as a 2/400 in, say, NM

wsdavid, how exactly would I do that? Btw, do you know if you can communicate with your admissions director via email?
thanks

Penn is honestly one of the most class-ranking focused Ivies.
