Rant

quynh2007 your posts are some of the most incoherent writing I've ever read

Wow you guys are some of the most stuck up people I've ever met. Just because you got into cornell doesn't mean you can't have some humility. It seems like you guys just expect to fall head over heels for your acceptance. Instead of labelling everyone who does the opposite an ignorant person as you like to call them, maybe lend them a benefit of doubt and take it as a joke? All people say dumb things at one point of another that don't make much sense. The fact is that the person who said it probably regretted saying such a stupid thing not long after they realized it.

Case in point: I regret making the post above.

Just cuz sum1 regrets it (maybe...most likely didnt cuz they would say sry) doesn't mean they didnt say it

i couldnt believe the reactions i got about going to cornell "you can always transfer, you know"

"its not REALLY an ivy league" "they have a high acceptance rate"
and if someone tells me "not to jump off a gorge" one more time....

for a while afterward, i felt quite crappy about going to cornell and almost regretful for having gotten in. It is so selfish for people to do this to me emotionally! they are messing with your minds and are jealous/idiotic.

It is important to remember that when in high school, especially senior year, the kids and parents are obsessed with colleges, acceptances and rankings. And many people just aren't familiar with Cornell's excellent academic reputation. So they rely on USNews or hearsay.

Once in college, rankings won't be a matter of discussion anymore. And as others have said, Cornell's reputation among graduate schools and employers is extraordinarily high.

Also, I agree with those who said that the parent mentioned by OP was rude (as well as ill informed). But be aware that people do say rude things (shockingly rude things sometimes) at all stages of life (not just about college acceptances). You have to learn how to ignore these remarks especially because quick comebacks usually aren't in your mind when these events occur.

It’s not a matter of being “stuck up” or “falling head over heels”, it’s a matter of having someone bash your achievements without any consideration and knowledge…tho as odyssey said, things like this happen a lot and it’s good to let them slide by and learn to ignore…
