RARE case acceptances??

I was looking at the acceptance thread and someone mentioned it was useless congratulations unless some one posted "SAT 1800, got into duke!" With all the stress and lost hope, how about sharing the success stories other than from people who expected it?!

There was a poster on the Stanford forums, i think last year who got into Stanford with around 1800 SAT's. His GPA was good, but what really really stood out were his extracurriculars. He had so many leadership positions in clubs and other organizations, it would take over a page, front and back, to list everything he had done. Other than that, I can't think of any incredible stories.

my friend who got 1800 got into stanford with minimal gpa and extra curriculars. he was native american

well ill keep you guys posted if i get in anywhere...Lol. bc with my sat scores it would be a real success story.

haha me too.. I was looking for hope in this thread!

I know someone, though, who got accepted, after waitlisted at Haverford without SAT II's and around a 1700-1900, I still dont know how she compensated.

yeah there are also a bunch of waitlist stories but i don't find them as interesting as regular acceptances.

yeah, all the low stats ppl I know that would fit under this category got accepted, but with very little FA and didn't end up going.

I guess we should anticipate more results in April, when RD come in.

I know a girl who is applying to Yale, Duke, and Stanford with a 21 ACT. She's really annoying though. I'll tell everyone if she gets in, but I wouldn't be happy about it. It would be ridiculous. Mostly because she is probably one of the most annoying people I've ever met.

RARE case acceptances only if you are an URM. Plain and Simple.

^ if anything it'd be rare case rejection...

OP, what is your hook?

You can't just say "Oh, maybe a miracle will happen and I'll get in" if you don't actually have a hook.

Would special schools like magnet schools qualify as a "hook"? or just an extra plus?

i remember reading this one thread about this one girl who got into harvard yale and stanford with a 25 ACT because she wrote a stunning essay. can't recall much exactly though..

Yeah, generally these "rare" cases are affirmative action at its finest...

Either that or a crazy good essay.

This tread makes me feel like I belong.

Great, now I'm not going to kill myself.

I got into cornell engineering with a 1960 SAT and a 3.4 UW GPA. I dont know if thats rare, but I was surprised.

No, a magnet school is not a "hook." A lot of kids go to magnet schools.

Colleges will acknowledge that it is much more competitive compared to other schools, and take into consideration your ranking within within your class.

a freind with a 2040 got into uc berk, his profile is just ok i guess, maybe amazing essay.
another guy with 1800 got into stanford, but is a vally i think, alot EC's i guess..
another girl ,a val, got into G town with like 2000 ish ,or less sAT

Was the UC Berkeley guy in-state? if so, it's not completely amazing.
