Please if any one can have the time to help me I would greatly appreciate it! Thank You!

If you are applying to CAS, then you would certainly have a better shot ED than RD. You definitely have a shot…and don’t worry about your 3.4; if you are in the top 5%, I doubt Cornell would count it against you. Apply and hope. That’s my motto. (P.S. I’m also applying to CAS ED, good luck!)

Well you mentioned that my shot at CAS in ED would be better but just wondering what would you think about COE, the thing is I want to study Physics and Mechanical Engineering, but people told me my shots are better in CAS, what do you think? Btw, thank you for all your help!

COE is usually a better choice. It is more stats based, and accepts a larger percentage of applicants.

Make sure to try to take the ACT. I found it significantly easier than the SAT, without any additional studying. I would try for a 33+.

Make sure still, however, to research the Mechanical engineering department and the Applied engineering physics departments and look at their research/engineering project teams/engineering clubs and make sure to talk about all of these possible things you are interested in in your essays.

From my understanding, although CoE accepts more applicants, it’s a more self-selected pool. Like you said, people with particularly good stats get in.

It seems like gian doesn’t have tip-top stats…sure, he’s a URM, but I think CoE is more, as you said, stats based while CAS looks more at a complete picture of the person, observing that he’s also in Badminton and Debate Team (no leadership position there?), among other things.

Definitely study for the Physics SAT Subject Test…and yeah, retaking that SAT will help, especially since your Math score (740) is high and Cornell superscores.

As Ivysaur said, you definitely have a shot…but you can definitely improve your odds by making sure you get good scores.

I would highly suggest ENG.

Engineering loves recruiting minorities. He has AMC, Mu Alpha Theta, and Engineering club. Your dual enrollment classes are also very good.

The 3.4 isn’t terrible, and your weighted more than makes up for it. Being from Miami, myself, I know what the applicant pool is like, and despite you having a low GPA, the rest of your application seems top-notch.

Dunno, my brother had better stats than gian and he got rejected, but then again, he didn’t do ED. (He was URM and we are from the Miami area as well)
