<p>I am a senior at a very competitive public high school in very competitive Westchester County, NY. </p>

<p>Male (does being a male help?)</p>

<p>My GPA is 4.0 (A+) and my weighted GPA is 4.2, and I am in the top10% of my class of 350</p>

<p>I have received an A in every class except Bio (I never want to see that subject again- I received a B+)</p>

<p>I don't know if this helps but on every NY State regents I have received a 95 or higher. (There is a regents for every subject in NYS)</p>

Football: 9-frosh 10-jv 11-varsity (12 didn’t do it because of internship)

Cross Country -12</p>

<p>Received NY State scholar athlete award for every sport for every season </p>

-National Honors Society (elected treasurer: club only for seniors)
- Model United Nations-a founding delegate at my school. Went to the NYC conference in May 11-12
-I am in VASSA (Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse) and I have gone to the middle school several times to be a positive influence and preach against drugs and alcohol 11-12
-I am an active member of my church (Usher,Youth Group, mow lawn of church, clean church, etc.) 9-12
-Big Buddy- Help frosh to adjust to HS 11-12
-Band- played trombone since 4th grade 9-11

<p>-My most important EC is Civil Air Patrol (CAP) the United States Air Force Auxiliary
- I am a cadet officer=big deal
-Senior staff position at home squadron
-NCO of the year for Southeastern NYand NCO of the year for squadron (selected by an intensive and comprehensive review board where I was asked many questions and the board closely reviewed my resume)
-Cadet of the quarter twice at squadron
-On 2nd place color guard team for SE NY
-Personally had the highest written test score at color guard competition
-On the Cadet Advisory Council for Southeastern New York for 1 year
-Been in countless parades, conducted many ceremonies, went to the prison to donate toys for the inmates’ children, and many other community service activities. Well over 200 hrs of community service.
-A founding member of my squadron honor guard (spinning and throwing fake rifles (like Cadet Kelly- yes, you know the Disney movie I am talking about))
One of the only CAP honor guards in NY State-do 10 min routines, did casket duty at a funeral </p>

<p>Summer Activities:
Also in CAP I attended and encampment in New Jersey (where I pretend I am really in the military) during my freshman to sophomore summer. CAP </p>

<p>The next Summer I went to the Regional Cadet Leadership Academy in Maryland where I was taught leadership theory, and I had to present several speeches (won speech contest within my group of 15 people), give a lecture, and write many essays. CAP</p>

<p>This past summer I was on the staff at the NY encampment. I was on the standards and evaluations team (aka inspector of uniforms and bunks- also wrote and administered tests) CAP</p>

<p>This past August I interned for my congresswoman in DC. Did office work and gave Capitol tours, which I love(I am such a history nerd)</p>

<p>Also this past February I went to Presidential Classroom Scholars Program (which is what made me want to go to Georgetown) Received an A+ on optional paper for one hour for UVA credit.</p>

<p>I recieved a $15,000 a year Air Force ROTC scholarship for any major I want. Does this help? It is a highly selective process, so I am told.</p>

<p>Essays: Absolutely loved them-my AP eng teacher any school would take me based on my essays
Recs;
-Had my APUSH teacher write it ( he is an alumnus of UVA). This was my favorite class and one of my favorite teachers
-CAP Senior member whom I know really well and has seen me grow so much
-One from my congresswoman saying how great an intern I was in DC</p>

<p>Sorry guy, UVA, Georgetown, Cornell, Emory, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins - all reaches. If you do get into one of these schools, my guess is it will be either Emory or Vanderbilt. On the other hand, the U of MD Honors program is pretty darn good, and American is very respectable. You'll do well for yourself at either school.</p>

<p>u shouldnt dismiss an application just because of test scores amptron2x, the 32 on ur act will help make up for the sat score even if it is still on the low end of your schools, the military experiences will be looked upon very highly by all colleges, chances r difficult for u bc its difficult to assess the effect of military experience. i wouldnt be surprised if u got most of them, yet i dont know, so ud be better off hoping either some1 with similar EC's to u has his results from college from last year who will post on this or asking some1 with similar ec's as u.</p>

<p>Coming from a good Westchester high school makes things harder. You are first and foremost competing with kids from your HS. Many will be legacies at these schools. Your scores are low for a kid from an advantaged background, that's the big issue. If your Cornell legacy is a parent, you have a decent shot there. If it is another relative or parents who have given generously, you have a good chance.</p>

<p>Georgetown will be hard. The others I'd say 40%</p>

<p>I don't know, I thought everything here (with the exception of the SAT) looked really fine -- you seem to have just as good of a shot as anybody.</p>

<p>I was in Civil Air Patrol too -- Seacoast Squadron from sweet and sunny New Hampshire, NH-010. I never took it quite as far as you did. I started late (soph year!) and was one staff review shy of my Mitchell when I graduated high school. Son of a gun, right? </p>

<p>Between you and me, though, I don't know if I ever would have even wanted to give up my stripes -- 1st Sergeant was the best job in CAP I ever had. :P</p>
