star89 what are your stats for the 7 year. It is every Indian parent's dream for their child to be accepted in to that; I guess not my parents! Good luck to you!

3.78 GPA at St. Albans all boys prep school in Washington, DC, one of the most competitive high schools in the country, send as many as 20 kids to Ivies every year.

Class Rank: 8th out of approximately 100

Recommendations: pretty good, got one from a professor at the pre- med program at GW as I interned under him (my dad's got connections).

EC's: pretty decent, lots of med-related internships/jobs

I'm applying Early Decision to the 7 year ba/md program.

Other Schools I'm applying to: WUSTL, UVA, William and Mary, Berkeley, UCLA, UMD (big time safety)

Im applying ED to the regular school, and hoping to be admitted to the md program. I'm pretty sure i'll get in, GW's not a great school, even for medicine.

GWmedstudent - why do you say GW isn't so great of a school? Because of the teachers? Or there's a lack of competition within the student body?

GW, although somewhat renowned, isn't that great of a school. It is 50th or so in the Newsweek rankings. Furthermore, admissions is egregiously uncompetitive, as you can see Rsood 05 was accepted with a medioce 1290 or whatever and a 3.3 gpa. I've also heard that many of the teachers have no regard for their students (aka part-time) as they are occupied with their research and other professions. To put it bluntly, if you can get in somewhere better, go there.

GW MED - would you say that the biology program at GW is better than that of University of Washington in Seatle? UW is a state school, but GW is private--does that make any difference in terms of funding, reasearch, and quality/reliability of the teachers?

EDIT: Also, I would be considered and out-state-student if I applied to University of Washington.
